Pops 19
20# coon has given my salukiXgrey the hardest fight of everything he's caught (this includes a doe deer alone & boar w/ other dogs) that being said, I agree w/ Kye, a pit bull terrier isn't going to bring anything special to the table for killing coons. even crossing isn't necessary. about the only earth work here i'd seriously want a pit or pitX for is denning coyotes & maybe bobcats. everything else can be handled by good examples of working terrier breeds. Hi Chip, be thankful that you aint got the feckers, they are a nightmare for all nests and pens that you would have for the birds, and other small animals. The pic will give you an Idea of what the coons can do for damage, there were no boar in this part of the maiz so we thought that we were OK untill I found this HTS Quote Link to post
Hunting-top-shots 2
I then went out with the .222 and waited for the Feckers. it was worth the Wait HTS Quote Link to post
sounder79 80
Hi Sounder79,.. Yes mate, they go to ground...in old beaver holes, old ground hog holes, in trees, barns, houses, farm building, old cars, farm machinery,...ANYWHERE that warm, draft free, and dry. Thanks FR,...as always, i dont get across very well in wrighting, what i mean in my head!..lmao...f*****g illiterate!... ... The dig FR refers to, was, quite frankly, a f**k up!..lol...what should have taken 45 minutes, took 2.5hrs,...but anyone that says they have never made a mistake while hunting, would be a bullshitter!..lol. The black dog pictured, is NOT the dog i mention,... Kye,.. PS...no one needs to be breeding small pitsbulls to hunt coon!..lol...i have a half bred pit, half fell pup at the moment, but i didnt get her because of her bull blood...i was low on terriers, and a mate kindly offered her as a gift!...you certainly do NOT need bull blood in terriers full stop imo...but im not against it either...the right Bull, with the right Terrier can make VERY good dogs...ive dug to Bull x Terriers, that where very good dogs... A coon, can and will kill a dog...in the wrong spot (water in a pipe is very dangerous!) and the wrong coon, it can be bad!...two seasons ago, me and FR spent a very cold 1.5hrs getting a dog out of some frozen ground...it was terrible...only about a foot deep!!!...FR used his 35lb bar to chip away at the ground, and i done what i could, but it was bad...we got the dog out, and im surprised he didnt go into shock...he was soaking wet, and although i cant remember how cold it was, it was in the negative range!...the dog took some stick, but if it had been a fox in there, im sure he would of been better off!... Raccoons are NO joke guys...you will just have to take my word for it!..lol. thanks for the info kye,so do coons have claws? how do they fight? Quote Link to post

If you have a white dog with very little color covering its eyes the SOB's will offten time go for the dogs eyes also. The best description i've heard was from a buddy one time.......he says they are kunfoo fighters. LOL Quote Link to post
Pops 19
more like jui jitsu they'll lay on their back when the dog gets too close and light it up w/ all four sets of claws & teeth. Quote Link to post
southernsport 0
In my opinion a coon can bring it to even the most talented dogs. I had Ms. Crackers in a farm shed with a 25lber in the middle of hay and machinery. That bitches has been worked on many badgers prior to crossing the pond and 10-15 mins into banging it down the bitch went to bay and stayed for the most part at bay till I got to her 45 mins later. Them coons have a way of making your dog think twice about staying hard. Just my opinion and experience. The great ones will stay hard but they won't stay active very long as retirement is just around the corner with them. SSK Quote Link to post

southernsport 0
I understand your point but from what I know she was truely hunted on the animal and I don't bait a thing. As for me I don't import any dogs. I was mearly compairing the ability of the coon as a quarry nothing more nothing less. I appriciate your concern but I don't participate in anything illegal period. To be honest the fun is in the hunt bottom line. If you like above ground action get a pitt or something like that. Quote Link to post
southernsport 0
As a matter of fact the bitch I am refuring to was my first dog some 35-40 years ago. Sorry for the confusion I had no idea. Quote Link to post

If you like above ground action get a pitt or something like that. you really do not understand. it is all ilegal and unless the terrier that have worked badger across the pond as you put it are 37 years old then what you posted is still inapropriate. I personally wouod welcome a ban on the export of all working terriers outside of the united kingdom and Ireland, if only to stop the bastardisation of breeds with a truly unique and rich heritage. I am wondering what pond the dog crossed as well as is it against the law everywhere to hunt badger on the planet ? This is all things to think about before jumping on some one for a extra post count or attention ! Yankee Quote Link to post
