Hunting-top-shots 2
Been around the traps this morning and had another one of these critters Nr 32 since May last year. they are in some of the fox sets that I have on the shoot and also in the trees, what do you think would a terrier put up against one of these?? the lab in the background is a normal bitch that comes in at about 32 Kg in the Hunting season. Sorry that you could not come down this weekend Steezy I had the BBQ ready. Eric if you are on here check out the coon there will be more this one was a big male . where is the beard hope to see you over here again will see if we can get hold of some of these for ya. Hunting-top-shots 2
the brother to my boyfriends dog (patxlakie) was shipped over to america for racoons don't you think they will be worse than a fox due to the fact they can hold things with their front paws!! coldweld 65
It's hard getting a grip with your front paws with a lakey on your throat ! Quote Link to post
Dux 5
It's hard getting a grip with your front paws with a lakey on your throat ! I've seen coons push my 70lb DDs head under water, had always thought that was just an old wives tale. Coons are tougher than a fox, might be a good idea to have several terriers down at once, eh? dogs-n-natives 1,182
As far as personal experience of racoon digging goes, i have none.... but ive read loads about working terriers in other countries, especially Europe, but also USA. Most terriers suitable for earthwork will work coon no bother at all, and as far as ive read, they are not as punishing as a fox for an earthdog to takle... Greg Donnell (rip) for instance, who was a regular writer in the EDRD magazine, dug groundhog, racoon, fox and possum with his terriers, and I dont think I ever read that his terriers struggled with the task of coon digging at all.... Tiff 36
they are fighting for their lives, until you see them worked you can't appreciate them IMO. You tell me what you would do if someone was throttling you and you had free hands to use? Quote Link to post
thurso jack 3
imo any earth dog worth its salt will work one? Quote Link to post
wilko 1
looking on usa websites ie linruff they make the job look easy. though i dout it is. the english breed the dogs for the work you do i no most yanks are nuttle mad middleton dogs also thrive on the work thier given in the usa.. it would take a lot to find it but thiers eveidence of two red smooth nuttle slaying a bob cat . hard little feckers or what .. but then when you think bout it most terriers will kill fof the sake of it. thats why we all love em.....
