Magpies

Recommended Posts

Went for a mooch down to my permission yesterday and there were absolutely loads of magpies in the fields but i cant get anywhere near them as there is pretty much zero cover. Ive got a few decoys but these arent much good if the magpies can see me anyway.

Anyone got any ideas? Would making a smal hide be a good idea??

Find out where they roost. It,s alot easyer. The thing about magpie,s is you have to make them come to you .Or know where they are feeding What tree,s they like to sit on.You will find out as you go along. I can only say keep at it.Just whatch the ground you are shooting .You will soon find out where to wait on them.atb catcher PS make sure you have good cover.

I'm lucky because I have a good acre plus for back a garden and the b'stards love attacking the pretty song birds around here :(

I've been sniping the feckers from my Velux tilt/turn window in my attic and they don't know what's hit them  If you shoot one then their greedy mates will come to investigate and you can get some more. I take my hat off to these feckers though as they still spring about and make the target no as easy to shoot.

you will struggle to shoot them on open ground.

unless you bait up and hide ( very well).

try and entice them closer to the edge of woodland where you can get better cover.

and good luck

cheers

p.s crack an egg open onto a piece of silver foil ( about 4 inches square) , they cant resist !!!!

must agree with catcher, find there roosting spot,my local one has upwards of 20 birds, you can shoot one without the others flying off.I always give the the tree a kick when i take the dog for a walk at night......

Be quick though because when the leaves start growing you won't stand a chance ;)
