O Fôn 0
I am setting out to breed a 1st cross whippet/greyhound and would welcome your thoughts? I mainly lamp rabbits at night but want to keep a dog with enought turn of speed to have a fair chance of a hare should the ban ever be lifted. These pups are to be bred in the purple as luckily i have a healthy budget to play with to get the best parents available. Do i go for a coursing greyhound bitch and a coursing whippet dog? or a track greyhound bitch and coursing dog ~ or both track / coursing parentage? I hear mixed reports about both? Also should i be looking to add a splsh of bull blood? Would be really glad of any advice? Quote Link to post
dangergirl 13
i was only thinking about this the other day.......would be interested on seeing peoples thoughts. I reckon worker to worker is always a winner if you can get it, Workers that do WELL generally have enough pace ect to get the job done. Would there be a benifit of having bull blood in the x? worker to worker whip/grey should be game enough IMO. Regards DG Quote Link to post

WELL PUT , an old friend of mine used to run a 3 quarter greyhound 1 quarter whippet , it was the fastest dog ive ever seen , this dog could murder hares , id make sure you choose dogs with good feet as sometimes the extra weight / muscle bulk can put extra stress on fragile whippet frames , i know this doesnt allways apply!! id use a greyhound dam and a whippet sire , atb mate Quote Link to post
fordie 8
they are good rabbiting dogs go for it mate THANKS FORDIE Quote Link to post
runem 533
IF you are breeding a whippet cross greyhound do just that, when you mention with a bit of bull blood added then i think you are drifting away from what you originally wanted..I dont know which area you are from but WESTHAUGHTON GREYHOUND TRACK have whippet racing there and hold the whippet derby there,i have been a number of times and some of those so called whippets 22/24 inch in certain catch weight races are really good fast tough dogs and i bet would make good rabbiting/lamping dogs. They are obviously whippet/greyound types and i would describe them as the old type flat cap whippets more at home in the field than on a track..the people there would be able to track a pup down for you.hope this is of some use to you. MikeTheDog 153
There are some handy looking whippet types at the flapping tracks, no doubt some of them have a little hard blood in them, they would make a handy coursing/rabbiting dog crossed with a greyhound and keep the size down imo.
