skycat 6,173
DAve Sleight told me this trick many years ago, and it works and the dog has no idea what you have done so there's no conflict or hurting his mouth etc. Just pinch the flap of skin where the hind leg joins the body. Do it fast and only as hard as you need to, keeping hold of the rabbit with the other hand. The dog will startle and maybe turn his head round to see what 'stung' him, and as he does so his grip on the rabbit will relax, if only a bit. That is the time you whip the rabbit away from him and praise him. I've never known this not to work and after a bit you'll only have to move your hand towards his body and he'll let go. Try it and let me know the results! Quote Link to post

Meriln2008 0
Try having a plastic bag of cubed cheese in pocket,Repeatadly shout 'DEAD' while offering piece of cheese and lifting rabbit upwards from him.If cheese doesn't work try something you know he really like Repeatedly shout "DEAD", thats going to go down a treat whilst out lamping. On a serious note just tap the dog on the nose or pries the rabbit free with your fingers whilst saying leave or what ever command you choose, it will soon get the message. But don't forget if its he's first catches, loads of praise even when you are trying to get your bunny back. Sorry.......... I was assuming daylight training. wouldn't take a dog lamping if I knew would not deliver and release pretty quickly. >>>>> Edited March 20, 2009 by Meriln2008 Quote Link to post

Guest reload
How many people teach a leave command? Its always hard with a dog and its first few rabbits to get the dog to give them up, but with a command it saves alot of head ache. Quote Link to post
