Best 12g for money

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, my best mate's dad wants to buy him a new 12 bore for his 21st, he's got up to £1500 to spend an has asked me to find out what the best gun he can buy for that sort of money is! As i don't shoot as awful lot i was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice?

On a different not has any fired the new Beretta sv10 perennia as a lad at college is raving on about it with the kickbac system, does it actually work?

Many thanks

A Beretta Silver Pigeon 3 would be the BMW 3 series of shotguns. Ubiquitous, easy to sell, competent and somewhat desirable. New ones can be had for around £1,400. The fancy new product from Beretta is the SV10 Perennia. Its a complete update with a host of new technology and features and forms the bedrock of Berettas range for the next 30 years probably. As such for around £1,800 you are getting a lot more for your money than the technology in the very tried and tested Silver Pigeon.

The hydraulic kick-relief system does work but plenty of people don't like it as it makes the gun feel as if its moving around a lot. If he's not really used to a conventional feel then it probably won't bother him and it does help your shoulder over a long days shooting clays.

I'd find the money for the SV10 myself but a good used or new SP3 is a wonderful first gun in itself.

First off he is very fortunate....£1500 buys you a very acceptable gun!

I assume an over and under is required!

Right then, a Sporter or Game/Field gun is required from details given!

Beretta offer several in this price area (and cheaper if you want a Semi auto), but so do many others, 28 or 30 inch barrels and a multi choke would be my suggestion, frankly you are spoilt for choice!!!

Best gun....NO NO NO...who will decide that??? You need the best gun for him, and there are plenty up to this price!

Go to a decent RFD, not a toy shop, and don't buy the first thing you see, you want proper advice, walk in a toy shop and tell them you have £1500 to spend and they will spend it for you on any tat!

Only know what I have read so far on the Beretta sv10 perennia!!

i'll back this x10..take him to the shop & chat about £1000 worth, you will do well for that money also .

Remember it must fit & be suitable for 'HIM' !! A good shop may let you try 2 or 3 s/h guns for the weekend & swap them for another 2/3 until he is happy :)

Good luck ;)

Seriously aaron, if you don't know what you are talking about then don't tell other people what to do, its starting to get on peoples nerves.

Get your mate down the local Shotgun shop and ;let him feel a few shotguns and let him decide, because your mates dad don't want to pay that sort of money on a shotgun that your mate doesn't like, and if it doesn't fit properly it would affect his shooting.
