Guest JohnGalway
Hi folks, Odd question. I'm after an item I've only ever seen once. I'm not sure if it's correct to call it a drainage spade but it's function is to cut the sides of a farm drain easily. It's a hand tool. It's blade is shaped similar to >this< except it's much larger, the handle is shorter and thicker with a T bar at the top to aid torque or whatever you'd call it. Doing some draining by hand myself at the moment and one would aid me greatly. I don't want a machine in digging the place to crap. Any help greatly appreciated, even if it's a photo of an old rusty one and some dimensions I may get one made up for me yet. ATB, John.
Guest JohnGalway
Thanks Donnie. It's also possibly known as a "Rutting Spade" as pictured >here< number 612.
sounder 9
john something like these or are they a straight head on them ???
Guest JohnGalway
Check out the "Rutting Spade" photo above Ray, that's the closest thing I've seen to it so far. Methinks I'll have to get one made up, never seen one in a shop.
SportingShooter 0
What about 606 in that link above John?
Guest JohnGalway
Not 606 SS, the spade I'm on about works in soft ground. You plunge it down and rock it left and right to cut it into the ground, do that both sides and in sections if it's a new drain and the ground is ready to be dragged out then. Guest JohnGalway
A guy on the BBs said it looks rather like a "Devon Shovel" also, but I'll have to find me a pic of one of those to see first. Nope, ain't a Devon shovel.
