Big Old Red 0
I have got a first cross wheaton greyhound. He is the most loyal dog iv ever had, Hopeless for lamping due to his nose but good for other stuff. Very quiet with other dogs infact he all most seems scared but as they say its quiet ones you have to watch.... Good dog suits me well. Id like to put him over a greyhound bitch one day. Was the Wheaten used in the mating pure? I have worked this cross before and they have a good nose, not needed when your lamping anyway as they tore down the beam, great lamping dogs!!!! If anything they can be to headstrong. Quote Link to post

If anything they can be to headstrong. I believe so. I got the dog at over 12 months old and i think he had been encouraged to hunt with his nose so when i tried him on the lamp he ran the rabbit then went nose down like a bloodhound when he lost it. Its a habit i have not been able to stop so i dont use him for lamping. Quote Link to post

shinyspade 2
I also think the first crosses lack the pace but agood dog to have round an earth i agree they arnt the fastest. but its swings and roundabouts. if you lose at one end you gain at the other Ozzy has never been laid up since i got him. and that includes him being hit by a mondao how many lurchers are as hardy as a good working dog should be. able to work week in week out year in year out BUILT TO PULL A CART FAST ENOUGH TO CATCH A RABBIT.
