hunterlass15 0
I have a 14 week old ESS x GWP Currently behaving like a nutter of a spaniel but has the markings of a GWP with the hairy bits I am soon to be investing in a shotgun so it will be handy to get him retrieving and flushing rough quarry. I fly birds of prey so I would love to try and get him pointing and flushing without chasing, and would love to get him working closely quartering. I realise that obviously its quite a mix of the breeding but I have been told it is more than possible that he will do it all. I am not going to rush him at all. Hes perfect on recall and learning to sit. That is good enough for now, for me. As far as commands go, getting him to sit and stay will be paramount, he comes to his name or a whistle. What do you suggest for sending him off command wise? Any other training methods you would suggest? Thanks guys ATB Jen Quote Link to post

You can use any command you want to cast him off, I use "gone away". The idea being that once he has has a flush & it's missed then I work him on with gone away. Quote Link to post

hunterlass15 0
Just an update , Thought I would let you know I have named him Brynn , he is now 14 weeks old and doing well. Been working on Brynns heelwork as this is quite important to me having obedient dogs on and off the lead. He is doing extremely well but sometimes forgets himself as can only be expected at his age. I dont make him walked completely to heel but do expect no pulling on the lead. I walk him on a slip lead so he knows when it tightens round his neck he is doing wrong and gazes up to catch my eye. Sitting is proving a milestone as he can quite competently sit when he wants to but as his tail never stops wagging he cant seem to get his bum to hit the floor. He knows well what the command means but his bum doesnt seem to respond to his brain At the moment everything is being done on voice command apart from calling him back when I whistle and he comes. I need to sort out a whistle for him but want one at quite a high pitch as not to complicate between the dog and the hawks. Am I doing enough with him at this age or should I be aiming for more?
