Sterry 0
I always shoot pigeons in flight as they are drawn down from "all the way up there" a bit. however the other day i came across another pigeon shooter who waited till the landed among decoys then shot them on the ground. now im well aware tht they are vermin but this seems little bit "unsporting" and the reason i shoot pigeon is to practise for the game season. so does anyone else do this or any other way of shooting them?? the Verminator 0
if using a rifle you have to let them land but with shotguns i sometimes let one land, then shoot one as its about to land and then shoot the one that was on the ground as it flys off. Quote Link to post
postiepaul 0
not the most satisfying of shots because theres no skill and you probably perforate your decoys. But it adds to the bag. You can always shoot it going away if you want. Line up two at a time is better. I Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
Thats what i thought. and a fair few of the shots tacken were only about 10-15yrds so need less to say the pigeons were smashed up a fair bit which is a great shame to see so many good meals go to waste,. Quote Link to post

I suppose that's the difference between a guy sporting approach, with respect for the quarry and a killer Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
Bit of a massacre. now if i scare the pigeons off - the farmers happy, if in the process i get some good shooting and a few birds for the pot - im more than happy. Im glad to see theirs a few who share my thought (llanshooter) Quote Link to post

Hang on a minuite, yes pigeon shooting can produce some great sporting shots but at the end of the day whichever crop you are shooting over you are protecting it FACT, therefore shooting them in the air or on the ground isnt going to be something the farmer is going to loose any sleep over. Me, a pigeon tastes the same if i shoot it in the air or on the ground Quote Link to post
The one 8,484
I like a good crossing shot at pigeon or just as there comitted to land in the pattern as theres no going back then for them ,the only time i let them land in the pattern is if theres two or more and then i take the second bird as it rises the only time to shoot them on the ground is if your decoying with a airgun Quote Link to post
