IanB 0
Not sure about statements on wind with the HMR, I've shot mine at 50-60yds with a medium cross wind and the bullets were drifting 2" left off target, they require regular cleaning to keep accuracy as they are pretty dirty ..compared to the likes of a .22 rimmy.. aaronpigeonplucker 32
if its only corvids then an fac air rifle will be fine. most of them are not as expensive as centrefires or rimmys anyway. your cheapest option is a hmr should get a good second hand rifle, mod and scope for £300......amo costs me £8.75 per 50 you will be able to shoot out to 180 yards easily and if its blowing a gale bring your range down to 70 yards ish......fac air rifles are all expensive you would struggle to get a rubbish rifle for £300/400 the only thing theyve got going for them is amo is cheap......hmr will do you well i didnt know HMR were so cheap! as soon as i get an FAC (quite a klong time!) i wont buy an fac air rifle i'll go for a HMR Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
For long range crows, your best bets are 204 Ruger or 17 Rem. My choice, despite my current 204 issues, would be 204. 17HMR is a 150-yard rabbit gun. 200 yards stretches it, so if the shots are mostly long range, get a sensible calibre. If you opt for CF, you can reload for not much more than HMR ammo anyway, and with the CF you'll hit more stuff, so it makes 'em count Quote Link to post

arveyboy 0
Wheres everyone getting this cheap hmr ammo from ? @ 8.50 a box Cheapest I can get is around 11.00. Have to agree with Woz there. Get a decent hide, and decoys etc and practice at getting as close as you can to the little feckers, or try getting them to come as close as you as possible. Bear in mind that SOME constabularies will give you a headache trying to get a CF for corvid/vermin. especially on first grant. thats exactly what i wa thinking dixy. my last batch cost £12.63 a box Quote Link to post

We normally pay a little more in northern ireland than UK mainland etc but £10 is a reasonably price for hornady rounds Quote Link to post

jamie g 17
i would have 223. 204 is flater and less recoil but 223 you can by cheap rounds for and reload for next to nothing. 204 is a rifle i think that inless you reload isnt worth having Quote Link to post
