jazz_11 5
well i got my shotgun now and although the season is over im just curious to know if many of you bolt to shotguns... im going to get my eye in on clay pigeon and hopefully clay rabbit aswell so by next year i should be ok i just think it is much easier as no nets needed and you can cover far more warrens quicker.. do you do it and what with o/u or sbs thanks jazz Quote Link to post
trapperman 474
Hi mate i have a sbs 410 i use when ferreting as a 12g can mess them up abit at close range i think useing a shotgun you will lose more rabbits than with nets unless youre a superb shot but it is good fun and with two people one each side of the hedge you can get around much quicker than with nets i use the standered size 410 cartridge with no6 shot good up to 25-30 yards Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
i fancy a double barrel 410 wether it be sbs or o/u but you dont see many of them around.. but shotguns are new to me so im going to see if i can hit some clays first cheers jazz Edited March 15, 2009 by jazz_11 Quote Link to post
The one 8,494
Just trying to finish up ferreting on a farm and its all the rough bits that are left and its going to be easir shooting them than setting nets and it lets you cover the ground faster Quote Link to post
00taz11 39
Has to be the best sport I use an over and under 12 bore i get many rabbits I find it alot better than fannying about with nets and a 12bore would hardly leave a mark on it just knock out a ball of fluff that's all better of using a hob for it though as I find they work better than the hills when bolting don't know why but that's my opinion Edited March 16, 2009 by 00taz11 Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
i do it not all the time but depends on the ground im doing, great sport, either use my 3 shot or a O/U 12bore, doesnt mess them up i dont think can a bit at the back end but for ferret food its ok, shouldnt be shooting a rabbit close when bolting anyway as a lot of the time the ferrets right at the arse of the rabbit or in some occasions on the arse of the rabbit, watch the bolt and count to 3 then shoot that way the rabbits clear of the hole. undisputed 1,664
Ye canny whack it for sport mate if you got plenty of bunnies, great for getting your eye and co-ordination in Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,788
Ive done a fair bit of it, can be great fun but can also be frustrating as hell if you get rabbits that 'hole hop' all the time. I usually use my auto with no more than half choke but usually skeet if im out soley for rabbits. Not suited to all lands though, i prefer to net where possible usually, but then im a shite shot. Sako.243 1
Do it all the time mate, Great on a hard frosty morning, Rabbits seem to bolt better. Great sport. Quote Link to post
Corky(amateur) 0
u mean in those weather condition or with the shotguns? i find that sometimes the 12G slows things right down and yet others they bolt like mothers! Quote Link to post
grdavison 0
its great sport mate i was doing it on saturday, you can get loads of sets done and in areas which is hard to net you can put the ferret in and just stand back waitin for them to bolt, if there are loads of holes you have to be quick as they normally run from hole to hole or onto the next set. i still net them aswell mate atb Gary Quote Link to post
ferretmaniac 5
Nah i dont do it cos 1 i dont know how to use a gun and 2 i think it takes all the fun out of ferreting. I use a dog for ferreting in my eyes its the better way! Quote Link to post
