j davies 8
A friend of mine gave me a good idea for a topic. OK who is able to ferret like the topic says, without locators and nets. What is your success rate. been ferreting years never ever used a locator i got one of a mate 3 years ago still in the box lol and i want be using one . never had to wait more than 30 min for my ferrets to come out. my dad did ferreting for 30 years had over 40 ferrets and he never used one to My hob ferret will ALWAYS come out after a kill, but i dug to him 13 times today with a locator, that made for an extra 13 rabbits in the bag, that was 1 day, god knows how many rabbits your dad lost in 30 yrs. You'll always have the old school saying "i never used locators", well my grandad remembers when they never used cars,(well hardly anyone) it don't mean it's for the best. you got a god point there think i might invest in a shovel lol Quote Link to post
The one 8,512
The fact is nobody knows the layout of a burrow under ground and you could be sitting waiting ages on your ferret coming back out off a kill when its only a foot deep inches away from you and you could have been out and away within five minutes with another rabbit but each to there own i know what i prefer Quote Link to post
benny 1 5
nah i dont use locators. My ferrets have always come back apart from one time. Quote Link to post
StephOC 6
I don't have a locator... hope to get one for my birthday I have also had some sucess without nets or dogs... Part of my permission was full of rabbits under big, low, conifer trees, but was also a golf course, and it was I was told that I could ferret there, but not to draw attension to myself. It was really hard to get to any of the burrows, and the holes were quite spread out... if I netted the burrows, and caught rabbits, there'd be loads of noise and if anyone came by it would be so obvious what was going on that I didn't have the confidence. I'd normaly put my box over one hole, bag over another and then lie with my hands right on the edge of the hole, putting some stones into the entrance slows the bolting rabbits down a bit and grab one. Missed most, but always came home with a couple for the ferrets. Quote Link to post

Malt 379
Have used them, but don't often. Would rather use one than not, but I'm easy either way. Give my ferrets a good feed the night before, and a snack in the morning & hey presto. Haven't waited more than 30 mins for one to show in over two years. Quote Link to post
