Born Hunter 17,813
What I want to know is how are you diagnosing that the ferret is terminally ill in the first instance? Well obviously it depends on the situation, but if for instance one of mine took a bad mauling off of a dog or something similar then theres f**k all chance of it surviving. I dont think many would knock a ferret on the head just because it sneezed, lol. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
a whack is painless and dead before they know what whacked them imo much faster then an injection which is delivered into a ferrets heart..... and they charged me near £180 for an xray and consultation at my vets :realmad: what vets do you use malt? Tenby veterinary surgery Will, but everyone local just calls em, 'Bowens the vets!' They're not bad on price at the minute, but they're moving to a new location soon, so I expect they're prices will rise a bit! They took a terminally ill ferret of my brothers in a few months back, kept it in over night on fluids, and it cost them about £17. He only put the ferret in there in the first place because it was his step kids pet, I knew it wouldn't recover as soon as I first saw it. Quote Link to post
Guest tewkesferreter
just out of interest how much do vets charge to p.t.s a ferret? Quote Link to post
mackay 3,404
I would have no hesitation in chapping a ferret on the head if it was beyond saving, and I guarantee it would be quicker and less traumatic for the ferret than a trip to the vets. To all the people who say they wouldn't, I would ask how do you despatch your rabbits when out ferreting?. Quote Link to post
Tallyho 181
imo knocking em on the heads gotta be less painful than an injection,as long as you get it right the first time then theres no problem. totally agree with you . Quote Link to post

Its down to the individual at the end of the day no need for discussion of this subject totally agree with you Theres nothing illegal about euthanising your own pets as far as im aware, as long as its humane. As far as i can see the antis cant get jack shit from this thread, people put there working animals to sleep as an alternative to the vet doing it. As long as nobody says anything daft i cant see a problem with this thread. Quote Link to post
