Do people really whack their ferrets on the head to save a vets bill?

Recommended Posts

As previously posted, one of my ferrets fell ill and I took him to the vets which is going to cost a whack.

A few old boys reckon I'm nuts and said I should've whacked him over the head and shouldn't be spending money on a ferret.

I argued otherwise that he deserves a bit of respect and at least deserves a chance of getting better.

Is whacking them over the head something that people do often? It seems like a bloody cruel thing to do to me, why not just go to the vet to be pts?

Depends on what it's suffering from I suppose. :hmm: If it was something that would require lifelong medication or something that would seriously affect the ferrets working ability then it would be put out of it's misery, swiftly & painlessly.

I agree. This is the reality for most WORKING animals, ferrets/dogs or whatever. Pet owners often love their animals to death, the life of a worker can seem harsh but imo fair. Saying that i cant stand the attitude, "its only a ferret, just a fiver"! f****n sickens me

Agree with you 100% there matey. It only costs £5 for a small animal consultation at my local vets, that's feck all to pay so you can at least find out what's wrong with the ferret in the first place.

i agree but i do no someone who had to wack a kit over the head because it was never quite right and couldnt walk properly so he just put it out its misery

Guest ferret feller

a whack is painless and dead before they know what whacked them imo much faster then an injection which is delivered into a ferrets heart.....

and they charged me near £180 for an xray and consultation at my vets :realmad:

what vets do you use malt?

my mate's ferret needed a wheel chair the lid on his cage closed shut on the ferret when he was feeding it and it wasnt moving it's back legs at all, he didn't want to do it him self so i got his oldman's pellet gun and put the little b*****d in a very deep hole and sent it on it's way...

Yeh deffinately, i havent got a problem with anyone who does the deed themselves, if mine ever need to be pts then i wont f**k about with a vet, not because of finances but becuase i can do it as well as any vet and a damn site faster.

Socks; if more people charged that for their kits then i reckon the ferrets would be treated with more respect and the "its only a ferret" type of people would soon piss off and leave working ferrets to the people that actually give a shit about the working ferret
