Cornio 0
As previously posted, one of my ferrets fell ill and I took him to the vets which is going to cost a whack. A few old boys reckon I'm nuts and said I should've whacked him over the head and shouldn't be spending money on a ferret. I argued otherwise that he deserves a bit of respect and at least deserves a chance of getting better. Is whacking them over the head something that people do often? It seems like a bloody cruel thing to do to me, why not just go to the vet to be pts? Edited March 13, 2009 by Cornio Quote Link to post
The one 8,511
You can bet it goes on,But if you value your ferret and it been a good worker to you why not let the vet pts ? Quote Link to post

Malt 379
Depends on what it's suffering from I suppose. If it was something that would require lifelong medication or something that would seriously affect the ferrets working ability then it would be put out of it's misery, swiftly & painlessly. This is the reality for most WORKING animals, ferrets/dogs or whatever. Pet owners often love their animals to death, the life of a worker can seem harsh but imo fair. Saying that i cant stand the attitude, "its only a ferret, just a fiver"! f****n sickens me Quote Link to post

It only costs £5 for a small animal consultation at my local vets, that's feck all to pay so you can at least find out what's wrong with the ferret in the first place. Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
only cost £5 !!! if i was to sell one of my working jills you would have to add a 0 to that £5 ................... Quote Link to post
Guest pikey
i tell ye, if a ferret got a wack off a bar from me it would be quite painless, he would not be thinking what the fxxx was that.. Quote Link to post
Guest ferret feller
a whack is painless and dead before they know what whacked them imo much faster then an injection which is delivered into a ferrets heart..... and they charged me near £180 for an xray and consultation at my vets :realmad: what vets do you use malt? victor 10
my mate's ferret needed a wheel chair the lid on his cage closed shut on the ferret when he was feeding it and it wasnt moving it's back legs at all, he didn't want to do it him self so i got his oldman's pellet gun and put the little b*****d in a very deep hole and sent it on it's way... Cornio 0
I can't imagine that a whack over the head is the only cure for a poorly ferret, I think I'd rather go to the vets to find out what it is first. Quote Link to post
Guest tewkesferreter
imo knocking em on the heads gotta be less painful than an injection,as long as you get it right the first time then theres no problem. Quote Link to post

Socks; if more people charged that for their kits then i reckon the ferrets would be treated with more respect and the "its only a ferret" type of people would soon piss off and leave working ferrets to the people that actually give a shit about the working ferret Quote Link to post
Cornio 0
What I want to know is how are you diagnosing that the ferret is terminally ill in the first instance? Quote Link to post
