120-2 8
Does any one remember Nigel Shearing of Longmeadow?, he made live catch traps in a workshop at Donhead St Mary near Shaftsbury in Dorset. I tested a fox trap he made many years ago using a concrete water drainage pipe. The pipe was dug into a bank and had a metal blank that clamped on one end and a door mechanism that was dug into the ground the other. A wire run from the door mechanism and back through the blank with a bait hook, when set the fox pulled the bait hook and the spring loaded door came out of the ground trapping the fox inside. the blank end allowed you to despatch the fox inside the pipe. The results on the farm were excellent but unfortunately Nigel died before the trap was marketed. It would be good to see this trap made again as it overcome the reluctance of the fox to enter the trap mainly I think because they run drainage pipes anyway. Quote Link to post

I used to enjoy Nigel,s articules every week in the Shooting Times , have had a simular problem regarding a piece of equipment that Nigel devised concerning on hell to hold 10 Talpex traps neatly/ store~age etc on another trapping forum , but nobody seemed to know !! 120-2 8
After Nigel died his wife folded the business up, the trap I mentioned was in the testing stage when I had them and was not at the time on general sale. This was a great shame as the trap caught foxes constantly. Edited March 13, 2009 by 120-2 Quote Link to post
