gnasher16 30,217
IF THE BITCH IS IN GOOD HEALTH AND HAS REARED A LITTER BEFORE THEN NO PROBLEM FOR TERRIERS UP TO 8 YEARS OLD. Dnt you think 8 is a bit old. The thing is an 8 year old bitch in good health condition is often more capable of raising a good strong litter than a poorly conditioned 3 year old.....i bred an 8 year old bitch about 10 years ago who produced an excellent litter in my opinion as long as the bitch is still fertile and is a sound and healthy bitch there is no reason why you shouldnt breed her....you willnormally find you are able to breed a working bitch later in life than a normal pet bitch anyway due to the fact they have had an active healthy life......i always liked to condition a bitch for breeding the way some people condition a dog for a show. Attack Fell Terrier 864
I'm no breeder but I'd imagine that as long as the bitch is in good health she'd be alright to breed from. Would it be more how many litters she's already had more so than age??? Like a bitch at 5 years old who's just been use to breed from constantly would be showing more wear and tear than a good strong healthy bitch at the age of 8 who's only had 1 or 2 litters previous? Because i would not like to do that to a dog. like i said that is just my viwe. But i dnt want you to think that im doing this to be wrong to peopel but i think 8 is a bit old for breeding with. If you think it is good to breed for a dog at that age then well good look.
gnasher16 30,217
So you wouldnt breed simply because a bitch has had a few too many birthdays !.....ive seen piss poor condition young bitches struggle much more whelping and raising litters than strong fit and healthy older bitches......dont put too much weight on age mate health and fitness are the important factors. I dnt want to fall out with anyone i just want to put my viwe across. I would not breed from an older dog at 8 year old. Just because i think the dog is to old. thats all i got to say about that. i dnt want to fall out.
