cdnhastings 23
Well theres no shame at being to something now is there? Ive rescued a lakie and she had been clipped almost to the point of being naked. Well winter here in Michigan is quite cold so I let her coat grow out and now ive this moppish looking soft haired fuzz ball. Do I go and have her clipped or do i get her proper stripped and if ive the time is it something that is easy to pick up and do? any and all advise appreciated Quote Link to post
Guest stantheman
stripping takes hours to do, if your not showing use the clippers. Quote Link to post

Guest MOLLY
You described her as having soft fuzzy hair? You cannot strip soft coated dogs....they usually dont shed hair, and have to be clipped. MOLL. Quote Link to post

Dawn B 212
If the dog has already been clipped and the coat is soft you will HAVE to clip it from now on, you cant hand strip a soft coated dog. If its clipped properly, it will look fine. Dawn. Quote Link to post

lone wolf 0
hand stripping is by far the best way to strip a border but the secret is to do it regular so that not so much is done in one go regards lone wolf Quote Link to post
Dawn B 212
Hi Molly. I meant you cant strip a soft coated dog, at least without causeing a lot of pain and discomfort. Dawn. Quote Link to post
Guest MOLLY
Thought you did Dawn Funny how their coats change as they age though, Moll (Lakie x Border) had a soft silky coat for years, so had to be clipped. As she has aged only the legs underbelly and head are soft and the torso is now coarse, it still wont strip though. Do you think some of these soft coated dogs, Patts for example have something like Bedlington way back in their heritige to throw soft coats? MOLL. Quote Link to post
Dawn B 212
Possibly Moll yes, you do get Borders with soft coats occasionally, what we call a single coat. Dawn. Quote Link to post

If you have not ever stripped a terrier before you will have a hard job and your dog will f***ing hate it To be honest its one of thoes things you have to see yourself before deciding what to do, find someone who can strip out a terrier propley, thats how i learned Quote Link to post
