Guest buster321c Posted March 12, 2009 Report Share Posted March 12, 2009 A KILLJOY councillor behind the scrapping of Britain’s biggest St George’s Day event has become a worldwide target of hate.Labour left-winger Yvonne Davies is under siege and being blitzed with hundreds of protest messages from as far as New Zealand over the decision to cancel a town’s parade.Pressure has been piling on her since she branded the St George’s fun day for families “racistâ€. Last night she spoke to the Daily Star to defend the decision to axe Sandwell Council’s £10,000 funding for the parade in West Bromwich, West Mids. She admitted: “I have suffered a lot of unnecessary and horrible comments. I lost count of the abusive messages. “They’ve been absolutely appalling – vile and offensive, even calling me racist. But there is a legitimate debate to be had here.†Organisers are determined that some form of celebration will go on and local Labour MP Tom Watson has joined their cause. Parade founder Trevor Collins pledged: “We’ll do everything we can to win this fight. “To have the Daily Star and our MP on board is fantastic.†This parade has been marred by the recent labeling of `Racism ` by left winger Yvonne Davis , and the council have withdrawn the funding , putting the parade in jepardy . Chris Kelly, the chairman and managing director of local truck company Keltruck, has stepped in to get the march up and running again by donating £10,000 to fund the parade .Organisers of the under-threat St George’s Day parade described as the biggest in England are celebrating after securing funding that could see the march go ahead. Despite this , left wing council officials have still tried to disrupt the parade by changing the date of activities in Dartmouth Park ( where the parade is due to stop as veterans pay their respects at the cenotaph ) from Sunday , the day of the parade , to Saturday , even compensating stall holders / entertainers for their inconvienience , which surley must come from `our ` council tax . As well as this , officials have tried to stop the expected , 15,000 people , from entering the park prefering that they continue to a car-park where they are expected to dispurse . Local by-laws are being reviewed to ensure that people who wish enter the park , can , as Pat Collins Fun Fair is at the parade and will be open for buisness . People are expected from all over the country to join the parade for a day of family fun , and donations are flowing in all the time . There is NO RACIST AGENDA to the parade , its just St Georges Day . Another event that we wish to keep alive , rather than be shuned in case it causes offence to anybody . It is the biggest St Georges Day parade in the country , and a reason to be proud to be British . You have no idea how many times the far left wing local council has tried to put a stop to this parade .
