adam5079 0
i just got 2 1 yr old ferrets. 1 hob 1 jill, both neutered, but I was told that they were too nice for working. Is this really true?? Can ferrets really be too nice for ferreting? They certainly don't seem too nice when foods between my fingers! Quote Link to post

Take no notice a ferrets a ferret , they dont have human like personalities that some people seem to think , let them have a go Quote Link to post

Sterry 0
thats absolutly rubbish, a ferret will scamper around a warren looking for bunnies out of instinct. its a good thing having a soppy ferret, the last thing you want is a ferret to back down a hole again when you want to move on. and lets face it hunting people are some of the nicest around, but still they kill plenty why should a ferret be any different? frost 4
ALL ferrets will work given the opportunity the only thing they differ in is their temperaments . There are some who come straight out after clearing a warren and there are some who linger and have even seen the odd one that would take the fingers off you after working a warren but they will ALL definently work some might take longer to pick up the basics but they are just slower learners than others. punydan 0
where did you get these ferts? I arranged to get two( same combo as yours) from mercia ferret welfare in cov. I told the woman on the phone that I wanted to work them, best to be up front and she didn't seem to have a problem. However when I went to pick up the ferrets, a pair of beautiful polies< she said I couldn't have them for working. Oh no these are pets only! Fair enough but she could have told me on the phone. By the way try working them and if they don't then you know but I bet they will, in the blood etc dan Quote Link to post
flying ferreter 0
No way mate, my two are soft as teddybears and wouldn't hurt anyone, they play and tease and are proper softies but get them out in the field and they DO KNOW what a rabbit is. I was introducing one of mine that hasn't met a rabbit, I was curious how she would react so after the first one was netted I put her next to it ( it had been despached) and she raced up to it and clawed her way to the neck whereupon she tried to kill it again and would not let go. She KNOWS! Anyway got her off and away from the rabbit and she was all cuddly / softy again ! Its great that you can pet them at home and also get great enjoyment from watching them in the field. Great pets Good FERT Quote Link to post

I would agree with that it's how they cope with the rough & tumble with a stubborn rabbit who'll fight back..i've had 2 jills that bottled it when the rabbits started to give it some back.Seen it with my own eyes, rabbit in a pile of railway sleepers, jill put in,all hell broke loose, jill come out & would'nt go back in . At the moment i've got a small jill(last years kit) she fits in the palm of my hand but she does'nt give up even with stop enders she'll normally stick until i put a hob down to move her off.... I've got a crocodile that was brought up on Maltezers, it would'nt even look at a Wildebeest now, It's in all ferrets to hunt, and they will, I've never come accross a ferret with a rabbit phobia yet, unless some one knows different. Don't think ferts have a phobia S1,as me previous post i've had 2 jills bottle it once they've had a good bounce around with a rabbit..but i've owned jills who've worked as good as any hob too shift rabbits at the moment iv'e got 3 now Quote Link to post
