Right folks, quick one. As I have posted, I got a Howa in 204 which doesn't shoot 40 grain ammo. I sent it back to Highland Outdoors and progress hasn't been as quick as I'd hoped. Decision time on it is next week.

If they haven't moved forward on getting this one fixed/replaced, I will have two options really:

1. a Howa in 243

2. the Remington 700 LVSF 204 Ruger I didn't get before, which is used. The Howa is new.

I went with 204 Ruger because in theory it offers rabbit and fox control at 243 ranges, but with less powder, less noise and less recoil (which isn't a massive issue, but seeing bullet hits at night is handy). I would still like those things, but I'm wondering if I can be arsed...

243 works, I know that from my old one (although I didn't like that rifle much). And added to that if I get another 204 issue it's yet more one-for-one variations, and Kidlington must be fed up with me by now!

So, what you think, stick with 204, or go back to 243?

This is put to bed now, in that the Howa works, but likely to sell as not a fan of reloading the 204. The availability of stuff is really annoying.

And I got it zeroed with stuff it likes, then promptly managed to come home and drop the gun on my foot. So I wasted time and money AND got bruising for my trouble. It's jinxed I say!!

Originally with Remington 40gr factory, 5-inch

Does the same with the 40gr v-max too, so likely not stabilising it.

But now i shoot 26.3gr RL10X, 32gr Nosler seated to COL 2.25 and it works. Needed Remington 7 1/2 primers though, as the CCI400 aren't strong enough and were rupturing occasionally. (maybe 1/10)

mine will not shoot 32g at all but can get half inch groups with 40g hornady, . but remmington did send itto riflecraft and they said it would never shoot 32g ,did seem a bit strange that a remmington wouldnt shoot remmington ammo .

why does everyone keep banging on about 243 all the time?? yes its a good calibre but why not try/own somthing else?? the 204 for long range fox/rabbit/crow control..243 is the smallest allowed calibre for deer and slightly over kill on fox....when the hmr first came out plenty of people harped on its the new must have calibre and it'll be gone tommorow..........be differant try somthing new..i really piss's me off with all the talk of short barrel life blar blar blar....rifles are just toys at the end of the day..
