Spaniel Lurcher Good idea >?

Recommended Posts

Was wondering what people thought of the idea of E.S.S lurcher. Has anyone ever worked this type of cross before.

The reason I ask is that , I have cracking little English Springer Spaniel, that has bags of drive, totally focussed, easy to train, will retrieve anything, in fact he's the best damn little working dog I have ever had, which got me thinking if you could combine these traits with a fast frame I think the outcome could be something special. He's quite a stocky little chap - perfect for bargeing his way through the undergrowth. Combine him with a whippet I think you would get a brilliant rabbiting dog. Being a spaniel he is totally focussed on hunting, flushing and retrieving, although since I've had him out with the deerhound he's taken to chasing aswell :icon_eek: which I've obviously tried to curtail because I still shoot over him aswell.

I'd be interested to here from anyone who has used a ESSxWhippet or ESSxGreyhound, do they do the Biz ?

iv seen a collie, grey x good for ferriting but just put its nose to the ground when out lamping if it lost any think

Yes good point. He does have a strong nose, offspring might want to put it's head down instead of using its eyes. I guess thats where you'd have to rely on the sighthound genes kick in. So pot luck with that one.

heard of an accidental mating of a springer x lurcher which had a bit of staff in it ,this was in the late 8os ,it was a very hyper dog called mad bob it was meant to be a good all rounder ,after a few years they put this dog back to a lurcher mates uncle kept one ,that was hyper too also called bob they reckon it was a great dog on everything but never produced after that as the old boy died and dog was sent too a pet home.
