ginge2k6 0
What do you use for bedding. What is the most absorbant and whats really crap. I've used sawdust which is clean looking and fresh but seems to not absorb the piss as well, paper which blows everywhere in a wind, and hay which is good for bedding but is shite for litter material as the shit ends up up the wall. Hay is however compacted together wich makes it easy to remove. Look forward to hearing your views as all that seems to be on here at the moment is arguing and someone trying to sell you something in bad conditions cough FK cough. Quote Link to post

Guest RobW71
I use Woodshavings nice and clean, always smells fresh, they also have a couple of old towels they absolutely love wrapping themselves in. whatever you use, they'll back up against the wall to go to the toilet Regards Rob Quote Link to post
ginge2k6 0
All the joins of my hutch are on the inside and because hay is very compact and gets pushed away very easily because off all the tunneling the little fellas do. The shit ends between the joins hence lots off scrubbing and hosing. Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
Hay and sawdust can both be too dusty for the ferrets respiratory system. Straw is good for bedding and in plentyful supply, unless you live in South Wales . Not a good idea to use barley straw as the barley ears can ingress up the alimentary canal and other orifices Wood shavings are good for the scats corner ....Don't use hardwood shavings as hardwood can be carcinogenic to ferrets Quote Link to post
doddsy1970 9
I use a mixture of both woodshavings and hay. I find that straw is too sharp and hard for the ferrets. I put down a thick base of wood shavings and a big ball of hay they love digging through it and in the end it all mixes together.and they drag it into their beds Quote Link to post
DiStuRBeD 0
i use old tshirts, trackys, etc for bedding, was told by a ferret guy not to use it when they have kits, as they can loose a kit in the clothes and they die, he reckons straw, but good straw, dust free etc is best for litter, i use newspapers, we get that many of them, better then throwing them straight in the bin, have to change it every day. Guest scutt
Hi Ginge, My preference is to use shredded paper for the bedding(plenty of it about nowadays) as for the latrine area,I cut an area about 4inches x the depth of the hutch out of the bottom, close off with 1 inch mesh, fix a tray/pan to the underside, this way everything drops right through to be soaked up by sawdust. This enables the hutch to stay in a clean condition . scutt Quote Link to post
