Dog vs Bitch

Recommended Posts

Hi guys i'm new on here. My name is Will and i currently live in Cheshire, i've farmed for years and always hunted, and am currently looking to buy my first real working lurcher. I was wondering if you guys could offer me any advice? For a novice would you recommend a dog or a bitch, and if so what breed is best to begin with?

Thanks alot, would be grateful for any advice :)

Welcome cheshire123, ive only ever worked dogs, ive found them to be very trusting, loyal; i think a lot of it depends on how you treat them and train them, im sure bitches are just as good as dogs ect. The only problem i can see is the bitch being in season, could pose problems. Im sure people that own bitches will post in a moment.

Lurchers and running dogs have been apart of my family longer then i have been alive,my dad is a great believer in bitches hes never realy owned a dog he said to me when i was a kid that a bitch is more loving and loyal than a dog and there a bit more cleverer and they try to prove them selves more to you,i would have to agree with him although i have owned two dogs myself father and son the father was a great dog but every now and again he did have his moments his son i have still got now he is 5 and is such a clever hard working game dog,so i think its just what you make of the dog mate not what sex it is. If you want a 1st dog mate either a bedlingtonx or a collie x cant go wrong really mate

i personaly prefere to keep bitches, we just seem to get along better making life a whole lot easyer, i have had a few dogs and to be honest i think there slightly better for the job being stronger and i also find that they want it more. this is just my opinion. it all depends on what type off pearson you are.

Harddigging hit it on the head in one.........depends what type of person you are, dog or bitch will do the job, but you need to know yourself first and what you gel with, i've had both, and run a dog now, which is my first dog i add, he's spot on but does nothing i haven't seen bitches do too, at least with a bitch you dont have to stop every 200 yards for it to cock its leg up anything on offer!!!!!!!!

ive got both dogs and a bitch.the dogs are a bit head strong for my liking (and ive just got another dog pup in :wallbash::D ).the bitch is 100 percent, the dogs have their momnents.if youre looking for a first dog go for a collie x greyhound or collie whippet.these dogs are easy to train, very loyal and do their job no questions asked.well thats my opinion anyway.all the best on youre decision mate

i had a 5/8 3/8 bull greyhound he was very hard headed but had very good preydrive and always delivered the goods iv got a bitch out of him she tends to be more obedient than he was and she works very well it all depends on the dog you have and how its trained all the best craig
