With regard to the pet shop side i wouldnt bother tbh. I guess it would be ok if you found a niche but my dad is in this line of buisness and hes not far from packing in i dont think. the problem come from most people buy pet food with the weekly shop and the prices the suppermarket offer its just not possable for the small buisness to compete with. I guess with th hunting accessorys part it might be ok as you cant buy that all to readly. TBH tho i would have thought something like an online buisness would be better. Just my thoughts as you asked for them.

thankyou for your opinion i do value it i will be setting up a website along with the shop, i do see in the particular area im interested in that theres a gap in the market and im hoping that we will have a good customer base as we are well known in the area,is it just the feed and accsessories your dad sells or lifestock also?what area are you in? many thanks regards kate

tried it in the 80s people did`nt come in for days - we ended up doing thurs and sat markets car boots and terrier lurcher shows .. less outlay good fun but you`d never get rich off it ..

thanks for the reply,im hoping to open end of year and in the remaining time get the word out as much as i can

i suppose its going to be hard until we get established and just hope that we fill the gap!!

im just in the process of finding decent suppliers for frozen minced meat ive found a couple but i think maybe do better

i work in a pet shop and the industry aint to great, i only seved 10 people in a weekend although this weekend was busy and this is in a very big well known petshop

dont mean to put you off but there are alot of big competitors that smaller businesses struggle to compete with

would rather not say but the company was sold not long ago for somthing like 8 or 10 million and the people who bought are rumoured to have been trying to sell it back to the other owner as its prooving to not be that profitable, i have also lost 4 hours a week, anouther lass has lost somthing like 7 a week. it is part of a garden centre

the garden centre and pet shop have been established for about 50 years i think, started off as a small family business, and i think the pet shop bit was added about 15 years ago maybe but couldnt be sure

hope this helps

Its just feed and accessorys he sells. in the north west. I used to do saturdays and holidays for him when i was a lad so ive not worked there for a while but its not been good for years. Its an old family buisness which my grandad set up and in the good old days was very proffitable. But thesedays with the larger buisnesses kicking around he justcant compete as well. I think its mostly stuff like the collors beds ect, treats, and exotic oets food that hes selling. Good luck though with it all :D

hay straw shavings make good profit as does dry feed buy in bulk and re bagged . wild bird food is a good seller at the right price , wormer flea powders and the like are steady sellers - trinkets dont make a lot budgie bells dog bowls that type of thing - try and find someone that will make you rabbit runs hutchs cheap i used to do my own - look into setting up an ebay shop it might just be a life line when its not busy - offer a delivary service for bulk buys hutchs runs etc .. check out your insurance for what you can store on the premisses .. get yourself on a market to get your name established before you take the shop on - do plenty of promo work in the weeks proir to opening the shop leaflet drops free paper ads opening offers .. atb
