  1. 1. Synthetic stocked- (carbon/kevlar like bell & carlson stocks) side by side, straight hand stock, double triggers for a modern all weather take on the classic side by side!

Hi all, Just thought I'd share my Idea for a new shotgun and my reasons for it.... This is born from experience... I regularly shoot clays with my side by side Cogswell & Harrison 12b (18th B'day gift! last year), but think that I'd like another shotgun for wet weather use, high volume pigeon/clay shooting or wildfowling. I have tried over and unders, pumps, and autos. out of those three the auto comes out top (benelli), but I just love the sighting plane of the s/s and the classic feel, I just don't shoot as well with the others as my old s/s. Here's My idea. :hmm:

Straight hand stock & splinter fore end

28" barrels chrome lined & 3" chambers (admittedly lots of 3" would be unpleasant, but for one session- 10-20 shots max? also I've not actually shot 3" shells so I wouldn't know what they're like)

Multi chokes (for those who want to change them... I'd just stick to 1/4 and 1/2--- works for me!)

double triggers (I hate single triggers on side by sides)

Synthetic stock of the carbon/kevlar stock variety (like the high end bell&carlson rifle stocks)

1" Pachmayr decelerator recoil pad or something like berettas' kick off system like on their autos and the sv10 perennia.

What do you think? unconventional I know and likley to stir up a hornets nest if it were ever to make it to the market place :realmad: , but practical :good:

Comments welcomed!

I would give it a go! Like you I can only get on with my s/s but its about 100 years old so can't put steel through it or any 3" cartridges; so it would be no good for wildfowling!

Only thing is I reckon it would be a pretty strange looking gun :hmm:

hi, personly like this gun. why would you want a double trigger, it just makes more work for you. i prefer over and unders' to side by sides as i think that side by sides make you look at the barrles more as there is more of them. i a regluar clay shooter who has represented england twice and team GB once i definately prefer over and unders. if you do want a new gun, get wither a browning or miroku. you cant go wrong with either of them. but its not what other people think, its what you like. i am an olympic skeet shooter and most people who look at my gun would say its a trap gun because i have a funny face :D.

cheers for the reply, well, I shot a friends browning cynergy the other week, and still had in my head the motions for a double gun, so i forgot to release the trigger all the way! so the second shot didn't fire!

Personally, I don't like Synthetic stocks on O/U and S/S seen as the ones I have tried (only O/U) have been very muzzle heavy and of course cannot be caste or bent to your measurements unless made from scratch to your spec.

Practical yes but 3" out of a S/S means a lot of recoil, steel in almost any form means a lot of recoil, so in a light S/S which is their advantage, would make for unpleasant shooting IMO.

I'd try it but wouldn't be surprised if I put it back on the rack

No I would rather stick with the tradditional ss.

me too, but I just wouldn't want to take my old gun out and get it soaked or muddy/ especially as i can't get inside the lock work to let that dry out but my ol' gun's gotta be about 70 or 80 years old... ruger made a synthetic o/u with stainless barrels a while ago but i think it's discontinued, and if i remember rightly, browning and fabarm make camo dipped o/u's....

one of the best parts of a sbs double trigger is the look, it would be sacralige to have one with synthetic stock. i use a "rough" gun, an AYA no 3 for pigeon andd wildfowl.

As for wildfowl, you can and i do shoot plenty of ducks and geese with english barrels and standard chambers. seems completely pointless to me but its what im used to.and thats what it boils down to.

My gun only has 2 1/2 inch chambers not 2 3/4... well, at some stage, over and unders were taboo, synthetic on anything, was thought enough to have you put to death ;D but i reckon it may just be a matter of time 'till someone comes out with a synthetic s/s ......

does anyone know whether anyone actually makes double trigger s/s guns anymore save from Aya and expensive semi-custom jobs?

do many of you use double triggers the one im getting is double trigger o/u...

i understand they can be harder to use but after a while surely you get used to it..

Ya man, double triggers are easy and just as quick as single triggers when you get used to them, I cant understand some of these clay shots who just shoot BA-BAM nearly a double tap surely the second shot would be wildly off target? I've just got a thing for side by sides and double triggers, what gun are you getting? a beretta?

i've only ever had 2 guns one .410 bolt action that i used from about 5 till i was bout 11, then i go given a 20 bore which i use to this day and it a double trigger, it comes as second nature and you can shoot as quick if not quiker with two but thats not really niether here nor there. i used a single trigger the other day and ended up trying to pull a trigger that wasnt there, sso its whatever you get used to.
