BlueCoyote 0
fleas dont like dry, or cold conditions. they also dont like chalky substances.. one thing that works, but takes time is salt OR Diatomaceous earth - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earth i've heard it can kill fleas, roaches, and tapeworms .. it basially grinds away at the exoskeleton which causes the bug to dehydrate and die. just dont breath it as you apply it.... but i have heard of farmers feeding it to livestock to kill internal parasites. i've never done that.. so i dont know if its true or not. i would say put some of the powder on the dogs bedding areas to kill the flea eggs and larva - since they need moister to mature into blood sucking adults the DE will eliminate that problem. Attack Fell Terrier 864
I have frontlined my dog 3 times since getting him in Dec, it just doesn't seem to work, i can see fleas on him, i need to spray my house amd his bed etc. can anyone recommend any products, the cheaper the better but not so cheap they are crap!! (Don't know if it is worth mentioning that i have 2 cats aswell, they do not seem to have fleas, no scratching ec so not really sure why the dog is covered in them) thanks It's no good just frontlining them if the area they sleep in is still full of flea's. If you let the dog go where ever it wants to go in the house and if the dog sleeps in different parts of the house then you've probably got flea's all over the place. When your dog goes back to these same spots for a quick kip, the fleas will jump back on them for a quick feast then jump back off when they're finished. If this is the case You will have to spray the whole house down and Front line the dog properly. I use frontline and have never had a problem with it, ticks turn white and die, and flea's you see scurrying off the dogs. You've just got to make sure you apply it properly, and dont let them get wet for 2 days after applying the treatment.
Hannah4181 260
Attack fell terrier is absolutly right. 1st go to the vets and buy a good quality household flea treatment. Treat the entire house, carpets, curtains, bedding etc. Then treat both the dog and the cats, i'd recommend using the pump frontline rather than the spot on. I've used frontline on all my dogs/cats for years, and can honestly say i have never seen a flea on them. Ticks die very quickly as well. It is fantastic stuff and IMO if used regulary and correctly the best you can get. I buy the largest pump bottle which is normally around the £50 mark and it lasts ages. I generally do the 3 dogs and the cat every 3 months.
TOPPER 1,809
get a few cans of RAID and spray every nook and crany in the house then give the dog a bath in benzo or spray it all over the dog and leave on no fleas will go near the dog for a couple of months but treat the house and the outside do any runs etc with strong jeyes fliud and anywhere the dog may lay outside , but dont put jeyes on your lawn as it will kill the grass

Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
Attack Fell Terrier is right. You'll need a day & be knacked at the end of it but do it right once & problem will be solved. Go to vets & get Nuvan or the best they 'v got spray- be between £10 -£15 tin. Put dogs & cats out of way downstairs & stairs upstairs. Go through each room move the bed & everything, hoover & then spray- floor curtains the lot. Anything on the floor chuck it in the wash. Do this to each room & shut the door. The do saw with stairs, hall the lot all the corners etc. Get a break before you start on downstairs. Dont let any animals where you've done just yet. Do same downstairs- put all bedding in wash or tip it upside down- spray the lot, or chuck it & get new. Go through room by room-hoover then do spray all the corners the lot. Lastly , bath dog & cats in flea shampoo & dry them. Frontline again. I've only had them once & I went through the whole house, now I just spray couple of times a year- not cos theres any but just to make sure my dogs are on Frontline & never seen a flea on them. I tend to chuck 'Tick off' on ay ticks- just to get rid of them quicker or if really bored get cotton bud & some whisky-soak tick in whisky tils it's p*ssed & they fall off. I know some of you will think it's excessive but if you blitz the whole house once you wont have to do it again. Good Luck
