Pups are just like babies, in that they don't have much control while very young. They often need, in early days, to go out maybe three times during the night. During the daytime, they often need to go hourly, and certainly, as lawrence said, after eating and as soon as they wake up.

They should be ok overnight, say 10.00 pm to 6.00 am by about three months old. To do right by pups, you have to be prepared for some disturbed sleep in the beginning. We always keep pups in indoor cages at night, and they also use them for daytime naps too.
