using hunting knives the law!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys just wanted to know your thoughts on carrying a hunting knife when out hunting.

Is it wise and if so whats best fixed or lock blade these days.

cheers in advance

i got stopped by the police 3 years ago, they asked me what i was doing on the land that i had permission on

told them that i was doing pest control but not shot anything, then they asked me about my knife, told them i had a good reason to have it and why i needed it. they said why if i hadn't shot anything, told them it was for gutting but they didn't beleave me.

got summons to go to court and got fined £175 and possesion of an offencive weapon

the knife was a 3inch folding blade

you were picked on mate thats all they get they figures together end of year and they see they took one more knife of the streets thats all.

all the police want is figuers not to stop real crime we are all to easy for them sorry you had the fine

actually mate im pretty sure the vast majority of police who are on the beat would rather be stopping proper crime rather than having to stop people carrying knives, however because there are so many bell ends carrying and using knives for the wrong reasons they are TOLD what they should focus on thanks to new home office instructions that they should focus on what the community want. BOLLOCKS.

yes but we are easy for htem ant we they see us doing fk all and pick on us they see thugs with them and fk all seen it and every one should see it on tv

sorry ive got no reply to that because i cant understand it.

do you watch tv you see it on the news kids showing there knifes in front of camra and the police say cant arrest them nothing to go on and its on film

As for your first post.

As long as your only carrying a 3" folding blade you havent got anything to worry about have you. If you do that you wont get arrested and be another statistic. Im pretty sure that for some reason they have put on TV the 0.1% of cases as im sure they dont just give people a slap on the wrist and tell them to go home.

Second Post

How many police men were there in this instance? If there were only 2 of them it wouldnt be very wise to approach a group of 5 people with long barelled weapons but maybe they knew them and that they had permission to be there. And at least when they did ask you they showed some noggin and left you alone after you said your dad owned the land, they could have been alot more awkward couldnt they.

Normally a bit of common sense prevails but unfortunatley common sense doesnt seem the be that common. That isnt aimed at you by the way.

hope this clarifys things.

The Criminal Justice Act (1988) says that you may carry a knife with a blade length of 3.0" or less so long as it is capable of folding. That means no fixed blade knives. But, think about it - a knife has no place at a football match, in a pub, nightclub or school and becomes an offensive weapon in these circumstances in just the same way as a screwdriver, or any other innanimate tool.

But I NEED a Bigger Knife ...

If you wish to carry a larger knife then you must have 'reasonable cause'. That means that you must be able to prove that you had a genuine reason for carrying the knife.

You may carry a larger cutting tool if it is associated with your work (for instance a chef may carry a 9.0" butchers knife roll to and from work), or if it is associated with your sport, (for instance a fisherman may carry a 6.0" fillet knife, or a hunter may carry a 6.0" fixed blade hunting knife).

Don't forget it's there though. If you stop off in Tesco's for a can of beans on your way home take the knife off of your belt and lock it in your glove box, or your local Bobby will be unimpressed at your excuses. When transporting a knife by car keep it locked away in the glove box or securely stored in the boot of the vehicle. Do not slip it into the door side-pocket, under your seat or in a centre console, this is a dangerous practice, and if stopped by the Police this gives the impression of keeping the knife close to hand.

Don't Give The Police A Hard Time ...

Ensure that you comply fully with the law. The Police take breaches of knife law very seriously, you really don't want to be caught on the wrong side, it's just not worth it.
