Guest buster321c
Well i allways carry one , how you gonna gut the rabbits else ? I cant see any problems , if you have a gun with you , plus your written permission letters and insurance ( which you should carry ) whats the problem ? I suppose carrying it on a bus or in a town is different and i must admit i don`t know the law on it , but i think if i got a pull from the police i would`nt worry as my stuff is in order anyway I carry a small locking stanley knife , a 4 inch lock knife and a gut hook Quote Link to post

jaegervulpes 0
It makes no difference to the law whether it is a fixed or lock knife. If it is over 3" then you have to prove a just reason for having it i.e hunting, shooting etc. I carry a Frosts 4" fixed blade with me all the time I am out with my dog, even if just for an exercise run and even if i'm going on footpaths and roads. Reason being you never know when you might need it too dispatch a deer caught on a fence or injured or free a sheep that's stuck fast in some brambles etc, both of which I have come across more than once. Granted I do live in the countryside, not a town, so there aren't so many people around. If I ever did get stopped by the police while out, to be honest I would probably scarper if they wanted to search me as no doubt they would want to take my dog off me, confiscate my knife and throw me in a cell for 12 hours under suspicion of terrorism or something. I could outrun any donut munching officer any day on my own territory where I know every woods like the back of my hand and could be off the radar before any chopper was scrambled as you know this would happen as it would be blown out of proportion before you know it. To summarize, carry whatever I would say, just not through residential areas or onto a bus (not insulting your intelligence!) and be ready to scatter if you are else where in the countryside and get stopped to be searched. Is it wise and if so whats best fixed or lock blade these days. cheers in advance i got stopped by the police 3 years ago, they asked me what i was doing on the land that i had permission on told them that i was doing pest control but not shot anything, then they asked me about my knife, told them i had a good reason to have it and why i needed it. they said why if i hadn't shot anything, told them it was for gutting but they didn't beleave me. got summons to go to court and got fined £175 and possesion of an offencive weapon the knife was a 3inch folding blade Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
small 3.5 inch lock knife is what i carry. i file the point off them to make them less dangerous. razor sharp knife though. why did you put this up on airgunning section BTW? Quote Link to post

RAMCAM 4
The laws a joke knife with a good reason and they still try to get money out of you. I was warned for carrying a pointed bottle opener on a key ring the copper said it could be used as an offensive weapen. Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,751
sub 3 inch, non locking blade is legal without any reason what so ever. I have a knife like this for everyday use and for most airgunner's needs it would do fine. However i do prefer a sheath knife with a good 4 inch blade which i carry on my belt whenever im out in the countryside or working. When of out in the morning shooting or whatever i always stop at the paper shop for usual snickers/redbull etc and the knife is taken out the sheath and left in the glove box. Just think and use your head and dont start getting it out in public and you should be fine. Having a good knife on me saved my parents dogs life about a year ago as i was able to cut a draw cord from my clothing and tie a tornacay(sp) round the dogs leg after she had run into a barbed wire fence and severed 3 vessels in her leg, blood was litteraly pissing out of her leg leaving me covered in blood dealing with it. Without my knife the dog would have died simple as that. So i sure as hell dont leave home without one now. Quote Link to post
