Recommended Posts

How do? I will find out whether my old divers bottle passed it's test on tuesday or wednesday. The man said there is a good chance it won't pass then i will not get it back. Then im i the merkat for a new bottle or a pump i've heard pumps are hard work and the seals can go when they get hot.I am leaning towards a hill pump they are roughly around the same price as a new bottle. Please advise? Hi Stan,

What will happen is that if it does pass, you will be notified by a phone call (if you left contact details) and you'll then have to pay the dive shop for the test, and collect your cylinder from the dive shop. If the dive shop you use is a reputable and well known one, they will re-assemble the cylinder and hose/valve yoke, and refill the cylinder for you as part of the testing proceedure.

If, on the other hand, it doesn't pass the test, the testers themselves will simply destroy the cylinder and you will then have to get a new replacement cylinder. The cylinder is the only thing that will not be returned to you - the hose/vavle yoke will have been removed from the cylinder by the dive shop for the test, and will be returned to you as these are not part of the testing procedure anyway. So at least you won't have to go and get new hoses or connector valves - only a new cylinder.

Either way, you will (or should be) notified as what is going on with the cylinder - in respect of a pass or fail situation.

I hope this is of help to you mate? :)

All the best,

Grim.

pump if you don't mind a bit of effort but divers botlles can be a bit expensive if you shoot a lot reguarly. also pumps can fit in a ruck sack or similar unlike a divers bottle wichis heavy to lug around.

I completely disagree with being able to put a pump into a rucksack  It would have to be a very large rucksack to hold that as well as the rest of your hunting stuff, not mention a packed lunch and flask of beverage ;)

The average pump stands at 26" from the ground and with the metal feet on it things will get very uncomfortable. Why would you want to take a pump on a shoot???

Most PCP rifles can hold 70 shots and above which is more than whats needed for a hunt so why consider carrying a pump??

Pumps are very useful for topping up but dive bottles have a better quality air for the internals of your rifle. I had the pleasure of pumping my 500cc bottle up from empty all the way to 250 BAR  that took me half an hour and I was totally fooked. I'm a fit person and I felt my lungs needed to be put back in my chest after that  Another thing with a pump is when you get to around 200 BAR you need to put all your weight onto the pump for each stroke, I weigh in at 13 and a half stone so this will give you an indication of how much effort is needed for each stroke on the pump after 200 BAR....

I just use a pump its not that hard!!! but some of the o.a.p's on here might struggle :download: :whistling:

and the other thing with a bottle is that you will have to keep getting it filled up and that will cost a few £s each time, where as with a pump its always ready. :)

Although your comment is quite true, in respect of a pump is always ready for use - I feel I must point out that a diver's tank is equally always ready for use (even if you do have to get it re-filled now and then. ;) ).

It is a matter of convenience over price really - how ungainly to have to take a pump with you to refill your rifle's reservoir, when you can just lob the tank in the boot of your vehicle and forget it until you need to use it - this use only takes a few moments in total, as opposed to say, half hour or so pump use as well.

Convenience & ease of use

. . . . . Cost & time . . . . . . . . . . . . . for me, every time - call me lazy, OAP or anything else you want, but that is the way for me! :)

Regards,

Grim.

I would go for the bottle everytime, clean air and seconds to fill the gun, my local diveshop charges me £3 to fill my bottle, I shoot most weekends and I havn't filled up since before christmas, besides that the pumps are just too dear for what they are

ian if your gun has oly got a small air resovoir then having to pump it up should be no problem whatsoever. Ive got an s200 and never let it get empty, i just top it up after every shooting session then it is always ready to be used and it only takes 5 minutes to top it up. ive used mines loads of times and nver had anyproblems with seals and whatnot. If you dont mind me asking can i ask which gun shop you use?

I have a 3l 300 bar bottle and my local dive centre will not fill it passed 240 Bar.... saying that 300 bar it is limit and thats all they are allowed to fill to...? Anyone confirm this...? this has given me 1 fill at 200 bar ona 400cc and then 190 sub fill to a 280cc bottle... so far this weekend...

One thing going through my mind is... a pump is just going to be more reliable... more effort yes but... not always needs filling... However maybe I just neede to take it to another place to get it filled

Should I be getting a: more fills or b: the bottle should be filled higher in the first place....???

Rob,

I too have a 3ltr 300 Bar tank/bottle, and my dive shop i use always has filled it to 300 Bar no probs - i think the dive shop you are using are just coming out with a bit of BS there!? :whistling:

My tank/bottle is marked up as 'SWP 300 Bar' this means that 300 bar is the safe working pressure as a maximum. the dive shop know this, it is plainly visible to all, and so they fill to 300 Bar for me when i go there - i have had no problems whatsoever (even up to now) with the guys there.

I think it best you find another dive shop to use mate.

All the best,

Grim.
