ABDog 0
If he's injured, rest him up...... he's a young dog, you f*k him up now his working life could be shortened dramatically. Quote Link to post
spiderfly 111
He hurt his leg isnt really enough mate. You need to give people an indication of what is actually wrong with it, i mean is it cut? Has he just knocked it. I would imagine he will certainly run again with no problems. Dont panic and if your that concerned get the dog to a vet. Good luck mate no there is no cut and he just had a limp in his back leg sorry!! Quote Link to post

Good luck mate no there is no cut and he just had a limp in his back leg sorry!! have a look and see if he broke a nail i would say it is only a minor thing when your doing alot of lamping their will be a few nights when the dog will come limping back he will be grand with a day or two rest.his a bit young his joints wouldnt be strong enough for runing on the lamp to much just yet.so wait a bit if you can it is very easy hurt a young runing dog. skycat 6,173
Get the dog to a Greyhound vet or muscle man: its most likely torn a muscle. If you can't do that then lead walk ONLY the dog for 6 weeks, yes, thats how long it takes a torn muscle to heal. And rub linament or massage oil into the leg every day. If its only bruising then you won't need to wait so long before running the dog again, but how will you know if you don't take the dog to someone that knows what they're dealing with?? If its a tendon problem then that's worse than a broken bone and could always be a problem or take up to 3 months ot heal! I'm not trying to fill you with despair: just trying to say how important it is to find out exactly what's wrong with the dog: you can only treat an injury properly if you know what the injury is. I've had dogs break bones and have a limp! Then after a couple of weeks the dog seems fine so you run it, then its limping again because the break hasn't yet healed: this could go on and on unless you really find out the nature of the injury. Having said all that: its nearly summer now (well almost). You could lay the dog off completely until late summer, just lead walking it every day for half an hour to keep it from going crazy. Then gradually build up the exercise from August onwards. That way, even a bad tendon problem or minor break will have had time to heal: rest cures a huge amount of problems, its just that most people don't know the meaning of really resting a dog for months. They're too impatient to be out and runnning again after a few weeks. Hope this helps. Quote Link to post
furdy 0
He's a bit too young to be charging around on the light. Big dogs need a bit more time. And add to that Deerhounds are the whimps of the lurcher world, they dont like any sort of pain. I'd rest him and get him out when he's a bit older. Quote Link to post
Guest Lamper18
my young dog ran off into the dark chasing something and came back limping with no signs of any injuries (cuts ,broken toes) ect... i think he pulled a muscle he was off for 2 weeks before he was walking properly again so i ran him and after 1 run he was limping again so i kept him off for 2 month and after that he was fine give your dog plenty of rest he be reet in few weeks Quote Link to post
