FUJI 17,327
just out of curiosity poachers pocket have you ever coursed on the fen in winter time ps what was the breeding in snoops dog that killed the four from five Yes Brookie i have done many times over many years ,as for the breeding of Snoopdog's dog i don't know that,i did see he said he had done it with his little lamp dog on the thread about a hundred rabbits or not being possible the other night,i don't know how to put one of them link things to it but i'm sure you'll be able to find it,as for the 10+ minute run by Rosco, all credit to the dog for hanging on in there i say, plenty would of chucked in the towel long before that .All the best PP. snoopdog 1,256
why my dog gets mentioned i dont no...but i ran him for a full season on the fens ..i had a few good days and some not so good days ...hes not bred for the fens but has about a 1/4 saluki in him... his running style is spot on he can run clever and get the hares in some real bother.theres a few people of this site that has wittnesed him......BUT I WILL STATE HE AINT NO FEN DOG and i have never claimed him to be....i got him for the local fields i run and local hares pre ban ...and thats what hes best at....and inan....you talk to some of the lads know and i dont do kicks ups.ask em ...as a rule if the dog sees it he goes.......he aint no where near as good as my young dog on the big land ....but like i say hes very good for the type of land i got him for......and he can fill the pot with various things ///pre ban of course....if anybody who has a very fit quickish dog with a good mouth they will catch a few hares on the fens but if they run them week in week out.. as the hares get stronger you will catch less and less ...FACT......saluki bred coursing dogs is the only way forward if you want to be catching 2 3,s 4,s twice a week on a regular basis any other bred dog wouldnt last a month....if it did it would have very little in bag at the end of the month....like i say he aint no fen dog and most of the time it was ones and two,s on the fen,s and a few blanks.... .. but he had a few good days.....where he caught more.....the mongrel.... .... lamping king 0
all ile say is go there with your non saluki bred lurchers and see how you get on I believe Snoopdog went there in January with a little lamping dog and took 4/5 so that blows that one out of the water me thinks? All the best PP. You have to temper all runs with the words "winter hare and fair law" for them to mean anything imo. Im not suggesting Snoopdog isnt in that category, I dont know him , but there are guys chiming in here saying I took so and so on the lamp, what the**** has that do do with coursing on big land? Courses run where a dog is slipped as soon as the hare lifts, are stacked in the dogs favour. A fast ,quick off the mark whippet/ grew type can pick up in these circumstances, because stamina never becomes an issue. The hare does not have time to get into its stride, and is often caught inside 100yds .Give the same hare to 100yds law and you will see a different course entirely. Iv'e dvds of runs with blokes slipping on kickups ,and the dog nailing the hare before it gets into gear. That is NOT coursing as I understand it. The fact that these fellas are willing to be filmed doing this ,and proudly holding up the hare after a 20 second run indicates to me that . A .They no nothing about coursing. B . They know nothing , and care less , about sportsmanship. Of course I am speaking retrospectively, ie before the ban. Edited June 19, 2009 by lamping king Quote Link to post
