simon1974 0
Hi guys, i will be getting my new whippet pup in 3 weeks, the plan is to use him as a worker and companion, and he will be 8 weeks old when i get him. At the moment hes being weened from his mum so hes eating ped chum meat mixed with pro purina small kibble (so the breeder informs me) and some of mums milk. Can anyone advise on the best way to go to give him the best as i want him to grow and develop the best he can. Thanks guys
Hannah4181 260
I would keep the pup on the dry kibble the breeder is giving them for a while, going to a new house can be stressful enough without the added worry of a diet change. After a few days when the pup is settled if you decide to change the dry kibble to a brand of your choice then do so buy adding a small amount into the old food, increasing the amount of new food until the pup is eating only the new food. This is best done over a period of 3/5 days. As far as dry kibbles go, i'd recommend Burns mini bites, or James Wellbeloved puppy food. I feed my dogs raw and so any new pups start on this after about a week of coming home, i start them with minced chicken with bone, and minced rabbit. Chicken wings are introduced at about 12 weeks and from then on the pups eat the same diet as the adult dogs. I do always try and let the pups have 1 kibble feed a day to ensure they get all the correct minerals and vitamins they need. Hope this helps.
