i have a plummer x jrt pup. about 7month old. the problem is everytime i try to get him introduced with my ferrets he goes mad. he runs about tormenting the ferrets and they just snap at him. i can get him to sit and let them have a sniff at him most of the time but after 20seconds or so he wants to play. my hob has the same temprement as him but this leads to them both being extremely excited and then just trying to bite each other. i have seen my hob pop a bunnys eye with a bite and am worried about this happening with my dog so everytime he gets near his face i pick one of them up. i know i probably shouldnt but i know what his teeth can do. if i leave the dog in the house while i am out with the ferrets he goes nuts and wont stop barking. anybody got any ideas how i can sort this out cos its getting on my tits now

Let both dog & ferret run off the initial excitment seperatly then try an intro with the dog on a lead

What he like running about the garden and seeing the ferrets in there hutch?? At this age if the ferret bites him its going to hurt and he should respect them the other thing is if you think he's to boistrious with them raise your voice and say ferret and he should /might back off

keep the dog on a lead and handle youre ferret,every time the dog starts going mad for the ferret check it with the lead and give it the command "NO".do this about three or four times a day for about five to ten minuites at a time.the dog will get the message .im in the process of teaching a lurcher pup the rights and wrongs at present,hes ok until the excitement kicks in and he thinks he can play with them,fortunatley enough ive got a ferret thats really laid back and wouldnt bat an eyelid at the dog.hope all goes well for you mate

whats the problem with lamps, my dog cocks his leg up them all the time, or did you mean LAMBS

cheers for the advice but i have already tried this. if i'm holding the ferret and trying to keep the dog calm at the same time its guaranteed that he bites me so that i put him down to have a go at my dog

Why have you left it so long to get accustomed to your ferrets mate? My dogs are shown the ferrets as soon as possible (normally 8 weeks)

only got the ferrets about 7week ago and have been trying to get them to be ok with each other ever since. at first i couldnt even pick my hob up without him trying to kill me. had to wear gloves and the lot for first 2week. now he handles ok but i still cant sort this out with the dog.
