thomps125 49
just curious because some people on here find it a problem that a bull x on the lure is stupid and that it makes it a show dog is there any one else who enters there doggs on the lure just for some thing to do and duz this then make your dog a show dog as some people say Quote Link to post

thomps125 49
does chasing a tennis ball make a dog thick?? nope doubt a lure would either if thats what your asking, didnt understand much sorry mate i am not to good at wording it basicly you have made it plane and simple chaseing some thing weather its a ball or a lure is fun for the dog and also training but in a previous thread people have slagd off my freinds dog because it is chaseing a lure in the pictures Quote Link to post
Hollie 21
My dad tried to enter his Lurcher into a lure race for a bit of fun (many years ago) he was slightly embarrassed when Zap sat down and refused to chase the fake bunny!!! He would not chase anything you threw for him, he would look at you like you were stupid, great working dog just didn't play games!! Quote Link to post
Sonny Brindle 2
Not all dogs will chase a lure, but most will. I'm going to take my whippet lure coursing over the summer, and most of the meetings have lurcher stakes too. Don't see what's wrong with it personally – it keeps the dogs fit and they enjoy it. Plus the social side is good. Quote Link to post
Paid 935
Made my own lure machien year before last, and had a bit of fun with it. Going to do the same this summer too. Also entered my dog into an upcoming lure course thing for a laugh, he will chase anything, so no worrys there. Quote Link to post
Guest GoneToGround1
thomps behave yourself like i said on the chocco thread a well worked bull x shouldnt be at a show thats why alot of them arent in them and the ones you see that are are the racey rabbiters Quote Link to post
zigzag dan 784
There are down sides. Often if your dog is a working dog it will be pitted against Greyhound Hybrids and will seldom if ever win, not good for the dogs drive. It can also bring out negative behaviours such as fighting and giving tongue on the line and while chasing, negative behaviours if they transfer over to the hunting field. I regret ever running my Lurcher at the simulated coursing events if only beacause it was detrimental to his noisieness and also that I was in the same field as the non hunting types who are for the most part non or even anti hunters. well said mate - this simulated coursing has only been pushed by show organisers or lurcher clubs since the hare coursing ban to make lurcher owners look like we are happy to chase a rag on a string ! some of the dogs entered never see real quarry and to put them in the same boat as real working dogs is an insult to all of us who used to stand on the bank in all weathers at altcar in february ! - and before anyone asks thats the home of real coursing and the waterloo cup ! and yes i do own a bull x and wear trakkies with reebok classics and a realtree coat !
