DIDO.1 22,639
Iv always kept poultry and pigeons and have alway fancied keeping some proper game cocks as opposed to the modern show types that iv had in the past. It seems to me that the only game birds that are bred in this country with 'gameness' in mind are the asian types such as assels and ko shamo but to be honest they just dont float my boat. Are there any traditional Engish breeds that havnt been made into soft show birds that I could look at. The type of birds iv seen in Mexico look more to my taste. Are Old English Game just show birds now or have I any chance of finding some with a little spirit. Any advice would be appreciated. Ian

CI HIR 13
There are two types of Old English Game(OEG),Oxford and Carlisle. The Oxford OEG were used for cockfighting before it became banned in 1849.The Oxford OEG has an upright apearance and mature cocks should not be kept together as they will fight to the death.Carlisle OEG have a more horizontal back and are show birds.Oxford OEG come in about 27 different colours and are a pleasure to keep and the hens are quite good layers too.
