nighttimenellie 4
Put traps out on sunday lifted today as we are forecast snow on the fells and i might not get out to check them, got a few but not happy with what im doing , seem to be in right place but missing more than i should i rekon, although two good things happened one was i got the mole in the farmers garden(felt a bit under pressure there) and when i moved them and reset them i caught one pretty soon after as it was in the trap as i walked round checking them before i left, so its highs and lows again(got a few that had loose soil in them but were not tripped, has it dug underneath?), heres the catch anyway, cheers Nellie Quote Link to post

nighttimenellie 4
I must admit Chalkwarren, its not since i first saw a dog catch a rabbit that i have been hooked so strong, and just like then, im fecking hopeless at it, but will keep on keeping on. Do you think the talpex types are a more forgiving trap, as you fill them with soil and that must help to diguise the trap and the smell? Edited March 3, 2009 by nighttimenellie Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
I must admit Chalkwarren, its not since i first saw a dog catch a rabbit that i have been hooked so strong, and just like then, im fecking hopeless at it, but will keep on keeping on.Do you think the talpex types are a more forgiving trap, as you fill them with soil and that must help to diguise the trap and the smell? Hi mate,...The Talpex trap is a new thing for a lot of guys,..but,..to my eternal shame,.. I was actualy sent a sample of this type of trap 25 years ago It was a strange concept to me, and I couldn't get my head around the idea of clearing out a tunnel,.only to fill the fecker back in again,.so,.I sent the traps off to a Welsh trapper pal,.and promptly forgot the idea. I've always trapped moles.. Obviously not in great numbers like the lads on the Dales and Fells,...we just don't have that kind of trapping in my area,.plus,.I rarely take on big farms coz I can earn as much for killing a single mole in a garden, as twenty in a paddock...its a geographical/economical thing I found the Duffus trap to be difficult to master at first,.but now I have them done and dusted,..and they are great traps. BUT,..these Talpex copies are ideal for my garden/paddock work. They can cut through the loose soil like a hot knife through butter and really do make an impression on the customer. Nice big, bold shiny critters,..and they really do look the business... Obviously,..in places where it is stoney or gritty or where a discreet approach is required,.I change my style of trap Anyway,..I'll still do the rabbit catching jobs as and when,.but,..I must admit,.I LOVE the mole jobs.. You meet such nice ,.welcoming,.grateful folk,..and I cannot wait to get out of bed and check my traps... Sad I know,.but what the heck.... All the best,.CHALKWARREN.... Quote Link to post
