Fat-Ferret 857
I took my 100yrd trad long net out tonight, I have only ever used it for ferreting, But decided to try long netting after reading a book or 3 about it. Got to the field, set up the net (eventually) and suspected I had made quite a lot of noise doing so....Walked out behind the field and walked the rabbits into the net, Ended up with four! Not too bad I suppose, could have been better, But only my first try....Better luck next time! I discovered on taking one rabbit from the net, He made quite a nice hole in it, What would be my best method for sewing this up? Obviously a net needle, But how would I go about it? mole catcher 1
fat-ferret this is how i work the rabbit out, and bare in mind ALL my longnetting is done in the dark without a torch i have found this method works for me. 1, standing on the side the rabbit entered, slide as much of the running kill away from the rabbit. 2, push the headline (topline) away from you and pull the footline (bottom line) into you and hold it off the ground. 3, the rabbit will spin 4, this will allow you to FEEL where the net is not covering the rabbit when you gently place the rabbit on the ground 5, then its a case of slowly puling the net away from the rabbit like peeling an orange. OR 1, work the head through a single mesh slowly 2, then you can slowly and gently pull the rabbit through a SINGLE mesh without damaging the net in any way. i know this sounds daft and i can hear some of you from here " pulling a fully grown rabbit through a single mesh, dont be daft" trust me you can. I work nets with a 4inch full mesh and if i can get a fully grown buck through a single mesh im sure anyone can. they sure can tangle those 4z nets Quote Link to post
