Excessive Fox Lamping

Recommended Posts

I think if an area can support a population, then it will allways have a population.......shoot 200 this year, they will be back again next year.

You should give ol Reynard more credit ;)

I shoot a good number of foxes, and,I have a mate that digs and shoots a good amount of foxes, but, the difference between him and you is,when he digs them they are killed(humanely),and, never knowingly allowed to run on.I don't dig, and,I can't understand why anyone would want to dig maybe a 6 foot hole in the ground just to let the fox go after, you can't even say that it is fox control! But,I nor my mate would want to see then end of foxes, cos, that then is the end to your shooting..............martin.

p.s. I will go on to say that even though I don't understand why you want to dig a big hole just to let the fox go,I will fight for your right to do so,and,we should all be fighting together for each others rights,if we(countrysports enthusiasts)were half as organised as the 'Antis' are we would never of had a ban in the first place........'Good Hunting'

i have got to agree we are there for the common cause and all we seem to do is fight amongst us however we do it we should learn to respect each other

police giving out F.A.C. to far to many, someone will be shot sooner or later . I came verry close to it by some idiot shooting down to a public road, i heard the fox hit the hedge after it was hit by the rifle bullet that is how close it was ,if i could identify who it was i would have no bother in telling police for public safety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i went out with my boyfriend and his riffle and we shot two vixens one wi cubs in her and one without...but to me it just wasnt a challange...BANG dead there was no buzz for me at all i think it was because there was no challenge, were as digging or using lurchers to get them (preban obcourse) seems to erm sound ;) more fun as sick and twisted as some people may say it is

200 is rather excesive i must say

:clapper: well the old dog vs gun.... i do both, but its a fact that most rifle men will stick to there permissioned ground there for limiting the amount they can take in say one night, but dog men can cover miles and miles and miles in one night taking far mor per outing than the rifle man can.... just thought id put that into the mix

shooting a rifle at night is a sport for many, but involves very little feild craft, marksmapship skills yes, but actaul countryman type knowlegde very little.

if lamping with a rifle were to be banned (not someting i would wish for btw) then its my firm belif that most "modern" keepers would simply not know how to kill a fox, and in my eys this is a sad state. they would however have to cencentrate their efforts on killing bad foxes and not just every fox.

its is a very affective ,humane means of control, but does not take any consideration of survial of the fitest or a natural balance, there is no "controled cull" type senario as with deer and the more you shoot the more they will come, very often worse than the last one.

............. the truth, there is nothing more thrilling than the relationship between a dog/hound and its quarry...... the relationship between a bit of old steel at 150 yards, you can keep it ;):D
