cúagusgiorraí 57
My local Gun Club has shot around 200 foxes during the last three months and there are countless other lampers shooting foxes during the week within my local area. I was wondering what is everyone's opinion on this amount of culling of fox? The rifle men will not stop for a season and generally want the extermination of the fox. Is this too much? Of course the fox is a pest but for those of us who like the sporting aspect of hunting fox, be it terrierwork, daytime shooting, bushing with lurchers, hunting hounds etc. is this too much? Is it damaging our / your sport? For a small example, I found a fox shot and flung into the ditch. This fox was from a very nice den that is ideal for terrierwork and the dog fox was large fit and healthy. He was an ideal fox to be worked with terriers and let run. He was doing no damage that I could see. There were no lambs being killed by him, or hens. The den is located in a remote place. I would rather see the fox being put to good sporting use, rather than culled for just his tail. All opinions are welcome! SNAP SHOT 194
If there is this ammount of foxes in a local area then a cull is needed..... BUT they should ease off when numbers start falling off... I have taken many a fox and always make sure that i do not go overboard.... And it's a fine line between keeping a farmer happy who's land we shoot over a nature's balance... However i've also seen dogmen hunt over large areas and digging dens with cubs, and giving them the spade this is not sport either.... But their are idiots on both sides of the sport...... its striking a balance between the clubs and yourselves that you need to find. Then you both will know when to call it to an end for a time......... i hope you get something sorted........ snap.

ferret boy charlie 0
in the past i have used wires dogs and guns and they are all effective methods but i must say people tend to go over board (me sometimes included) with the guns but you could wipe out the whole fox population with any one of those methods. claybusers al 9
over the years i have used every method to control foxs and on places i have had to do them hard within a year i am back still doing fox's so for 1 person to say shooting them is wrong is the same as saying digging is wrong it is all the same controling foxs wether you call it sport a job or just pest control they need controled
martin 332
I shoot a good number of foxes, and,I have a mate that digs and shoots a good amount of foxes, but, the difference between him and you is,when he digs them they are killed(humanely),and, never knowingly allowed to run on.I don't dig, and,I can't understand why anyone would want to dig maybe a 6 foot hole in the ground just to let the fox go after, you can't even say that it is fox control! But,I nor my mate would want to see then end of foxes, cos, that then is the end to your shooting..............martin. p.s. I will go on to say that even though I don't understand why you want to dig a big hole just to let the fox go,I will fight for your right to do so,and,we should all be fighting together for each others rights,if we(countrysports enthusiasts)were half as organised as the 'Antis' are we would never of had a ban in the first place........'Good Hunting' Edited March 2, 2009 by martin
mattydski 560
Where they are a problem....they are shot...normally at the request of landowners or gamekeepers. Where they are not a problem...they are left...normally at the request of farmers without game or sheep, but with rabbit problems. I personally love watching fox....I take no great pleasure in killing them..but I know if I kill them, they will be killed with the upmost respect and in a humane nature. From that I take satisfaction. That is not to take anything away from any other legitimate forms of control..I speak only from my own perspective.
desertdog 149
i cant remember the last time i dug a fox and let it go, and as for being organised as the antis, well i,ll let you decide my feelingS on THAT
