dog just keeps barking and diging outside hole?

hi got a terrier but she wont go to ground just stands barking and digging outside hole its likes shes getting fustrated does any one have any ideas on how i could encourage her to go to ground?

she could be scared of the dark put a lamp on her head and see if that makes any difference lol

Digging at the mouth of the hole and barking is a clear sign that the dog would like to go in but dare not. If the dog is ony 6 month old then, as has already been said: lay off until next season or there could be another ruined youngster that was never given a chance.

 

I wonder just how many young dogs are classed as no good by owners who are no good themselves. Not having a go at you, but if the dog is that young then its still a pup: give it a chance to grow up: keep getting it out in the field, and if possible get it out checking holes with an experienced dog, but don't let it go down until next season.

Terriers don't need any encouragement to enter holes, they'll do it of they're own accord when they're good & ready.

as others have said, patience, the dog will enter when it's ready, take it out with experienced dogs and tether it within earshot of the earths their working. seen young dogs over encouraged to go to ground before time and i.m.o. it can ruin them and get them false marking...

many a good dog been ruined in haste, she is still only young, so dont try and encourage her just yet, she could end up taking a few knocks and it will put her off.

as every one says hold her back take her and let them have a few rags etc tie em up and after earth is clear let of and leave come on its own if its in em and of good stock dont worry they come when ready if only people stuck to good stock we wouldnt have the poluted version of most dogs on the market as these days , sayng that most of the dog men if you can call them that are the problem i think , only breed of the best and you will get the best , by the way this isnt a knock at you mate just giving my opinion !
