craftycarper 0 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Share Posted March 1, 2009 Right here we go....went out with the HH today, drove up the road to a spot i have been taking her everyday this week a disused road running between fields on my permission. Its gated off for tractor access only with a side gate for horse to get through, a lot of people use it for access to a local nature reserve further on to walk their dogs. Anyhow there is never anyone parked there when i arrive or when i leave, i also never bump into anyone always picking to avoid people if i see them in the distance. So after getting there i get the bird out her box, turns round and what do i see hanging from the gate.....? a lump of ply tied to the gate with flex saying....shooter XXXXXXX (my registration number) ...we know where you live! Now thats got me pissed off, for one i haven't been out with my gun for 3 months or more and also have never shot over these fields...whats going on? there are a couple of bungalows opposite, one had the curtain back while i was there today and it looked like an old girl in her late seventies & next to the gate are some stables. Also yesterday some chap pulled in next to me with his dogs in the car as i was leaving. The bird was already away so he didn't see her but he did not get out the car while i was there, and was still in the motor when i pulled out...now going paranoid if he followed me home and wondering if he or one of the residents is some do-gooder who has mistaken my telemetry holster for a gun....gonna go down the local nick with the sign as i cut it off...the green gloss paint had only just started to set.... flyfree86 38 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Share Posted March 1, 2009 that is weird mate,what bird do you fly?i fly a harris myself.i tend to get more hassle with me dogs than i do with the birds.i dont shoot.but like ya said the people at the bunalow probly assumed you had a gun.a friend of mine once had the police turn up to him in the field,claming he had a crossbow.again that was his telemetry.supose you cant blame them for thinking he was some nutter with a crossbow.but in the end the police actually found his bird.but for them to threaten you well its kinda scary.and i agree telling the police would be the best option.good luck mate. Will be walking to the spot tomorrow, didn't today coz there is often a lot of offroaders en route being a sunday so i took the landy. Will keep you posted if anything else occurs... Guest miller1989 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Share Posted March 1, 2009 (edited) Hide out and watch for them doing it again,its not on and if you keep going there and there watching you and to there word know where you live it may cause trouble,if it were me i would not involve the old bill just yet,see what you can do about it first and explain to them you dont shoot there and also make a sly threat as if youve watched them before etc give them a frigh tput a note back on the gate saying.....im not stupid im watching your every move! I have the sign in me motor in case its needed at a later date if this escalates. I have also written a reply, typed of course..putting them straight on what i am doing and telling them that the sign has been reported and handed to the met police. Thank you for your brief note left the other day on the gate here, I would just like to point out a few facts that you may be unaware of. Firstly I have permission to fly birds of prey in this and surrounding areas and I am not shooting in the vicinity of xxxxxxx at present so please do not refer to me as shooter and get your facts right. Your previous message / threat attempt has been reported and handed to the metropolitan police to deal with…. flew the FHH briefly, returned to the motor and the note was still in place. Went for a pint round the corner and returned past the gate and it was still in place. Will take another look later when i pop out for a bite to eat, its only 4 minutes from the house in the motor Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Meroman 105 Posted March 2, 2009 Report Share Posted March 2, 2009 It looks to me that maybe someone spotted you flying your bird and does not agree with field sports, knowing that what you are doing is 100% legal they have taken it into their own hands to intimidate you... You have done the right thing going to the police and placing your own sign to let them know you are no fool in the event that things escalate. Good luck to you, you have done nothing wrong.
