Deker 3,478
Bolted some new glass on top of the HMR a few days back......100 yard zero session with Hornady 17g. This doesn't happen for me every day unfortunately, so take a look...closely...that is 4 shots in the hole!!!! Click picture to zoom in, I have conveniently numbered the holes for you!! weejohn 3
i must say that is a fantastic group, i have yet to try the hornady but my groups with federal are around 1.5 inches which are really poor Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
excellent group mate, thats a nice bit of shooting there... i do love the little hmr. Quote Link to post

cyclonebri1 8
Deker, what are you results with other ammo? I ask because I've just bought a new pair of rimmies the .22 I'm delighted with, 25 shot 1 inch groups @60 yds The hmr was giving slightly worse at the same range, but a change of 90 degrees to the target due to range gave nothing better than 5 shot 3" groups at 100 yds. I know I need a dead still day for the hmr, but.... Was using Hornady 17grain stuff, will try winchester next, (which is in exact contradiction to what I found with the .22) Quote Link to post
hunter1 63
Cracking shooting deker.LOOK OUT. Quote Link to post

Was using Hornady 17grain stuff, will try winchester next, (which is in exact contradiction to what I found with the .22) First off, the only reason I posted this was because it was a bit good for me, they don't often work out this well...I would normally be happy to put 3 shots in a thumbnail at 100yards Hornady, Remington, Winchester, all 17g, group very similar, but Hornady seem to be about 1/2 inch lower at 100yards. Federal for some reason did not happen too well for me, not sure why! In the right conditions I would not be happy with a 1.5 inch group with the HMR at 100. CCI, I have only used the 20g HP...good for a laugh but...the HMR seems very much a 17g tool. Crosswinds are not good for the HMR but it does seem that out to 115 yards at least (longest I have specifically target shot with it to check) AND in the right conditions mine is performing very well. The closer the range the more accurate it is, definitely get tighter groups at 50 yards with it than the .22LR, but both very acceptable at that distance!! In all seriousness..off the bipod at 50 yards, in the RIGHT conditions I would be expecting 3 shot groups with the HMR touching!!! What happens out in the field is often a little different!!! njc110381 0
I can get groups like that from my CZ HMR. I use Remington ammo in mine. As said above, free standing is a right laugh. At the same range I can probably consistently hit a coconut Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
We are drifting a little..so what's new...but in the field I go out of my way to avoid free standing 100 yard (or more) shots with ANY tool...to the point I will often refuse. I will do anything I can to find a gate, fence, tree, shed (bipod of course) or anything possible to get some extra support! I would never suggest I could achieve a group like that in the field....f*** me...I wish!!! Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
It is a good group mate. I will second the point about avoiding free standing shots - if the target is close then maybe, but otherwise I much prefer some kind of support. Be interesting to see how my new 204 shoots... hotel2zero 0
Deker - great stuff mate. the 17g hornady shoots well from my cz452. sub 1'' groups @ 100yds and easilly taking rabbits at 160 yds+ (off a tripod) Edited February 28, 2009 by hotel2zero Quote Link to post
woz 260
dixyhmr said: Deker, what you said about trying to achieve a good shoot out in the field rings home true. I would like to see some honest posts of members of standing shots at 100 yards and see what a difference there is. No offence whatsoever to those who shoot targets in good conditions of bipods, but lets see some free hand groups and see how the groups expand somewhat ! As we all know out in the field shooting of a bipod with a stationary ( obliging ) quarry isnt always an option. If theres anyone brave enough to post a few pics Im not personally that brave but id like to see what people are capable of free hand ! Good grouping there. nice shooting EXELLENT SHOOTING DEKER..CANT ASK ANY BETTER FROM THAT MATE..........honest posts??? i wouldnt of thought there are many places in the uk were you can afford to be taking free hand 100 yard plus shots with a rifle.i would say rested i am a above adverage shooter..standing free hand im a joke..i would be happy to hit a 4" target at 100 yards..there is no way in the world i would take a 100 yard plus shot with a centre fire rifle because i couldnt say were the shot would go..it isnt safe Quote Link to post
cyclonebri1 8
Mate, if you fear taking shots where you could be 4" off target, you really are taking unsafe shots. If a yard or ten each way make the shot unsafe it is not a safe shot. For fucks sake??? Quote Link to post
