Guest grit
I just dont agree with the 8 weeks stuff hes comming out with, you must bond or how will the dog now whos boss,3 months then let them have a look out no running and when the fast enough to run a rabbit cant see a problem realy as running around playing is just the same as running one or two easy rabbits day or night at like 5-6 months but i would not go as far as the double slips or running them four nights a week im talking a quick mooch and as few runs a week untill around 10-12 months and go from there! Dogs that have always been slipped ,in my opinion have no stamina everything has stamina, slipping doesnt make a difference, if you are out working them or running them or walking them, or bke riding with them, putting them on a treadmill, all build up stamina, just because it was slipped doesnt mean it cant run If a dog is always slipped 9 times out of 10 they are running flat out to their quarry they will look impressive but soon burn out after several good runs.It does not matter how fit they are nothing can last long running flat out. Even your musle tone changes (look at the differance between the legs of a long distance runner and a 100 m sprinter if a sprinter took up long distance running his legs would alter shape). coursing dogs in the day nearly always get slipped, the people who are sucsessful do use treadmills, push bikes or run behind or infront of their vehicals for several miles to build up there stamina.but its a small % of people do use these methords. most people dont. im not goin to say loads of people use these methods because i dont know if they do or not, yes, but the statement was 'slipped dogs' IYO, have no stamina, my dog is slipped or ran off the back of the truck, in October, me and my little brother were running the dogs to get them fit, we started at 3.4 miles, and built it up to 6 1/2, that's us running with the dogs, this obviously isnt the best method as they are running the same speed as us, which for them is slow, a while back we were using a treadmill, the dogs were having a 15 minute walk warm up, a 20 minute run on the treadmill, and then a 15minute cool down, and the change in the dogs was unbelievable, like you said, change in muscle content, but that must be the best method for building stamina in a dog I take my dogs when i go running it makes it more injoyable; and it is very very beneficial for the dogs Quote Link to post
