someone is leaving gates open on my permision what shal i do?

inform the farmer and suggest he padlocks the gates. its a nuisance but it will solve the livestock issue and most farmers do it anyway. As for the personal saftey issue the chances are no one whos poaching is going to approach another lamper in case its the farmer so you should be ok. Do you think this has been happening before and you are only noticing it now you are out and about on the land at night?

Good luck and keep us posted!

Well surely telling the land owner is the best thing all round as its possible to loose your permision if anything happens to the stock . the land owner isnt going to bother with finding out who left gates open , your the one in the firing line

Just what i was about to post Kay...had it on my patch in December f**knuts not backfilling the ferret digs. You have to let the landowner know of ANYTHING out of the norm as YOU'LL be the one gettting the big shitty stick waved upon.Guard YOUR permission with your life...if other people are getting on & not giving a f**k you'll carry the can :bye:

has been open wednesday and was open again tonight, have seen person and dog foot prints and know it is being opened between 7 and 12pm, now it is a new gate on my permision with a sturdy latch on it so cant come open by its self......my main concern is for my own saftey and for the saftey of that person and there dogs as this farmer doesnt like poachers or running dogs as a holE(WE HAVNT DARED TELL HIM YET), iam lucky to get the permision,

it is mainly two gates, along with others, but the main two have sheep in going on to roads so if it sung open the sheep could be miles away by the morning and there would be hell on as its a very windy road which people go flying along and could be a danger to the sheep and even worse could cause an accident

what can i do? :(

Personally I would tell the landowner. And ask him to put locks and chain on gates.

If you don't tell him and he finds out you could be put in the same bracket as them and he may say no to all hunting on permission or they could do the dirty and say you gave them permission.

Explain to him and let him know you respect his ground.Once locked can just hop the gate with your dog.Good luck

My sentiments exactly.

Put a poster on the gate telling them that you are aware that they are poaching, they have no respect for the land they are poaching on, you have informed the police because what they are doing is ILLEGAL and if they are caught the police will be called and the dogs dealt with accordingly (I do not agree that the dogs should take the brunt for the stupid owner, however it may scare them enough to think twice)

Go out with someone thats bigger than you and wait near the gate...If you see them tell them to bugger off. First move it to tell the farmer first and make it absoluty clear that you didnt leave the gates open and you are worried about your safety..surely you have brothers or cousins close by that will come out afew times?

had problems with poachers on a trout fishery i used to work on put on a yellow coat like the police/builders use sit and wait when u see them put a light on them there put there light back on you and just shout police stop there most lightly to run and be to worryed to go back. if they do stop there normaly easy to deal with in my exspearace (spell). On the other hand just but anti poacher mines on the gate they work a treat but rember where they are nothing will scare you more than walking over your own trip wire late at night

i'd let the farmer know your concerns about there being poachers, as he might think it is YOU leaving the gates open.

Padlocks on the gates will stop them leaving the gates open, but wont stop them accessing the land.

Chances are if they see you lamping, they will make there getaway as most poachers want to avoid confrontation
