I wrote for the Countryman’s weekly in the 90’s under the former editor Vic; however when David Veener took over in my opinion the magazine went downhill, Brian Plummer wrote for both the Countryman’s Weekly and the Shooting news, for over twenty years and under this new guy Dave they never even sent a memorial to his funeral, however covered the funeral in the magazine a made up story, to which I complained in writing to Venner, who phoned me, with a lame excuse.

it was brilliant in the mid ,s when phil L and the welsh terrier guy wrote for it.

it was the mag for the common man, everything from ratting to deerhunting with lurchers.

went down hill fast when they started making it like the shooting times

I agree its like a pale imitation Shooting times now they seemed to want to go "up market "for some reason. I like Penny Taylor's stuff on health and dog care ,sensible stuff,but a lot of the other pages are just ads.£2 is too much for a mag which is half adverts.

nothing will happen to him lee. becuase most people talk the talk on here , but in reality they will do nothing. they may go to a show and see him , and mutter under there breath what they think, or even shout from a distance , but that will be about it.

 

im certainly not going to go and confront him , over some one elses dog . who should have done somthing about it himself

tomo i for one would certainly not want you to do anything nor have i ever asked you to do anything but tell me something what would you have done in my shoes at the time i was going through a divorce bringing up two boys on my own my father was in the later stages of a terminal illness do you think i was going to jeopardise my liberty by going to devon once id found out where he lived and ragging that fat scum thieving b*****d because make no mistake im more than capable of doing that but like i said in a previous post two men will meet before two mountains and when i do meet him every one on the showground will know about it

in the mid 80s it was a proper dog mans paper with real dog men wrting for it men who were out there doing it for real with proper dogs now its a load of rubbish written by people who have nothing in common with the lurcher and terrier boys they do nothing for us nor do theyre writers have any in depth knowledge of fieldsports
