FOXHUNTER 5,021
One of the local farms I shoot has got a larsen trap as there are hoards of magpies about. I baited it with rabbit a few days ago and havent caught yet . When I checked the trap this morning there was about 20 magpies around the trap but nothing captured I know the birds become very territorial in the Spring , just wondering if its a little early to trap yet or is anyone else catching at the minute. If anyone in the North East has a call bird Please let me know !! Edited February 25, 2009 by FOXHUNTER Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
I'm not sure if it's too early to trap them, down here they are already paired up. I was catching in the larson up until october last year (I started late). Is it worth dropping an egg or two in there as well as the rabbit? H Quote Link to post

stubby 175
if they were "in" why no capture Quote Link to post

alimac 882
put a rabbit out side as well, let them get to know there is a free food source there, then take it away after a few days leaving the baited larson, you should have better luck that way.... Quote Link to post

Guest Countryboyo
How long have you had the trap set up? it took me a full week to catch one. I put some bait outside the trap to give them the taste . Quote Link to post
teal man 0
good tip when your trying to catch the first is leave your rabbit (bait) on top a couple of days then drop it in the trap not only are you showing the birds theres free food but they are getting used to the trap, also just slice the meat with your knife makes it easier for them to pick at, it all helps good luck.
