pikey2983 2 Posted February 24, 2009 Report Share Posted February 24, 2009 just got back from been out with the dog and my mate off here went out looking for big bunnies think we seen 4. the last 1 we seen was right down the bottom of the feild was a bit far for the dog to run right down so we moved down a bit to the second gate and it was there just hopping alone. so got dog out the car over the gate and it was off got it in to the middle of the feild turned it a couple of times then my dog started barking so my mate said knock the lamp off i was gutted frist good run on a big bunnie and my dog went and f****d it up. i just hope its because he is only 15 month old and not 100% fit. any tips on what i could do to stop him doing it again would be a big help. BUT if there is something were he cant get it say up a tree or in a pipe, he'll whine. outher wise he'll be quiet. but as far as i know all you cant help it. Quote Link to post

big marty 41 Posted February 24, 2009 Report Share Posted February 24, 2009 my first x collie greyhound does it sometimes when she cant get it, its just frustration from the dog, she doesnt do it all the time tho..... there is not alot u can do about it, try keeping it on the rabbits for a while yet Quote Link to post
snoopdog 1,256 Posted February 24, 2009 Report Share Posted February 24, 2009 at 15 moths old you got a job on your hands trying to stop it yapping.....ive seen dogs run rabbits and never yap ..but as soon as it on the back of a hare it starts ,,,...to be honest its partly you fault with not having the dog fully fit .....but if it was mine i would go back to basics getting it some easy runs and kills ...and get the dog fit ....then again some dogs just yap no matter how you bring them on from a pup.......but to cover your own back and to be satistfied in your own mind that you have done everything possible .get the dog some easy kills and get it fit...you should have left the lamp on it might have settled on the hare and stopped ......good luck with the dog and give it the best chance possible to redeem itself ....... SPOT ON, ive got 1x collie grey, he is 16 month old 24 ins 58lb, he as had 93 rabbits , 3 hares, in the lamp. There not a hare dog really, so i try to keep to rabbits if i can. I find hares are hard for 1x collie grey, maybe 3/4 grey 1/4 collie, makes a better hare dog, but 1x collie grey are great rabbit dog and thats what i use him for, and 93 rabbits from 18 nights lamping, aint bad for a 16 month old young dog. desertdog 149 Posted February 24, 2009 Report Share Posted February 24, 2009 being a collie x has nothing to do with yapping, ive never heard such a load of crap in my life, give your dog some easy kills ,something he will cope with and be patient any dog will get frustrated, ive seen some good dogs get up behind quarry and open up, and none of these where collie blood, i have a first cross and she is silent as the grave the trouble with dog people of today is they dont do there homework and are to impatient im not saying you have been at fifteen months your dog should be ready, bring him back a step and take your time, Quote Link to post
